Pablo P*********, owner is Mr. Handyman, is threatening a false Mechanic's Lien against my home. He is claiming that I owe an additional $199 above and beyond the agreed upon rate for completing less than 2 hours of work at my home. I paid the workers who came to my home a check to Mr. Handyman, which was cashed in Dec 2021, for the agreed upon amount for the work. Mr. P****** is now threatening to file a Mechanic's Lien if I do not pay him an additional $199. I am fairly certain he is doing this because he believes I will cave to his blackmail in order to avoid the costly process of going to court to prove that I do not owe any additional amount. This is purely blackmail to seek more money than was agreed upon in the contract. I do not have extra money to waste, and I certainly do not owe this money. On principle, he should not get away with what he's attempting to do. I do not, however, know how to fight this false claim other than going to court.

      01/16/2022

********************** reached out to our office via our website on December 11, 2021 seeking an estimate for changing door hinges on interior doors. Soon after, our office replied to ************************** email requesting some additional information about the project. Our office received an email reply from ********************** spelling out what his project consisted of--replacing three hinges on ten interior doors. The following morning, our office sent to ********************** an estimate via email. In that email, our office explained to ********************** for the second time that Mr. Handyman bills on a time and material basis, and a two-hour minimum billed at $306; for replacing three hinges per door for ten doors, our office estimated 3-4 hours of labor, which is, $426.00 to $546.00. ********************** accepted this estimate and our office scheduled his project for December 20, 2021. On the day of his appointment, ********************** refused to pay the full balance of the invoice stating that he was quoted only the two-hour minimum. For this project, two technicians were sent to ************************** home; each technician billed 1.5 hours of labor each, meaning a total of three labor hours. As was numerously explained to ********************** via email (before, during, and after the completion of his project), the number of technicians involved in a project can vary depending on the job—for example, a 4 hour job may require a single technician for 4 hours or two technicians for 2 hours each depending on the scope of the work. Although the technicians were at ************************** home working on the project for 1.5 hours, the two technicians divided the work evenly amongst themselves--had our office sent only one technician, the job would have taken the same three hours to complete.

After the job was completed, ********************** refused to pay any more than Mr. Handyman's two-hour minimum of $306--leaving an outstanding balance of $199.99. After repeated attempts of explaining this to ********************** via email and phone, our office was met with aggressive phone calls and emails. After facing threats of blackmail by way of bad reviews (despite ********************** repeatedly praising our work) we repeated to ********************** once more via email what has been outlined above and explained that any outstanding invoices past 30 days are subject to interest and legal action via a mechanic's lien.
