I have had a Capital One Platinum credit card for over 13 years and it has had a zero balance on it for over four years now. Due to that they have lowered my credit line and I am being charged an annual fee of $39, yet their web site states that there is no annual fee for Capital One Platinum Mastercards (*******************************************************************************************). I received an email stating that I had a payment due on the card even though I had not even activated the latest card I received and that was the $39 annual fee. I looked back as far as I could see my statements and because I had set up an automatic EFT debit for an amount a long time ago, that has paid that annual fee for the last three years even though I do not use the card anymore. When I called to cancel the card, because I do not want to pay a fee if no one else was being charged that and I had not used the card in over four years (I literally activated the card today when calling into their customer service), I was told that any charges on the card prior to it being cancelled were the responsibility of the card holder, even that $39 annual fee that I was charged yesterday! If I cancelled the card today I would still owe that $39 annual fee and it would not be waived. This seems to be very unfair business practices and if Capital One's own web site states that there is no annual fee - $0 (and that is not a new card promotion). That is very deceptive advertising if after you charge something that the terms change or they expect people, as myself who have had the card for over 13 years, to pay an annual fee, yet they very clearly state that there is a $0 annual fee on the web site. That is restated in the detailed account terms document that is linked from the site... and they will not waive the annual fee because it was already charged... yesterday, even if I wanted to cancel the card today.
