I stopped my account with GFL on June 26th and they were to pick up my four trash bins that day or the next day. I have been promised four dates to have them picked up and it is July 25th. I called and am waiting every time for 50 minutes before I can talk with someone. I have had five promised dates for pickup. Each time they are a no show. I even emailed the site listed on GFL and the responses are a no show. We are senior citizens, and this has caused us much stress. We bring the bins out to the road and then bring them back in time after time. I am sure my neighbors love seeing four empty bins out in front our front yard for a month. We stopped using GFL because they were always late picking up the trash. Please if you are considering trash removal, don't even think about GFL.Review from LocalResident G

My garbage was simply not picked-up, on occasion, repeatedly. I think this is the pattern: if I am away for a week, or just don't have anything to bring out that week, then the next week, the driver doesn't bother to come out. I am penalized for not producing enough garbage! This has been an enormous inconvenience. We have bears in the neighborhood who regularly scatter the garbage that has not been collected. Picking up garbage in the early morning after a bear has spread it and the rains have poured all night... I have grown tired of doing this. It has happened far too many times! Trying to contact customer service has been a nightmare. I have spent probably dozens of hours with my phone on hold, trying to get through. When I do get through, the people with whom I have spoken have over-promised and basically not delivered at all. It seems no one has the ability to hold the drivers accountable for doing their work. Or no one is communicating to management that there is a problem. Or management has other priorities than customer satisfaction. Or all, or something else besides! It's a shame, as some of the drivers have been excellent, friendly, professional, while others have been... indescribably bad. One solution would be to give me some means to indicate whether or not I need someone to come out that week. But I suppose this is too high-tech a solution for mere waste removal. (Too bad!) There are lots of areas for the company to improve here. Keep the complaints coming, and perhaps they will someday. Until then - stay away from this company if you have other options. My experience with County Waste has been frustrating since I arrived in the Charlottesville area four years ago. It has been nothing but frustration. I have TWO trash companies that come and pick up my trash. This specific trash company for the past couple months have been saying i haven’t been paying the trash bill. WHEN IN FACT I HAVE and then i get notices that I’m two or three months behind when i know I’ve paid it and even my spouse has paid it. We both have been trying to figure out how are we paying something but then we turn around and are behind on payment. When our other trash company who we pay more to then this company NEVER has this problem . I’m repaying a bill but 3x more for something i had already paid and this has been like this for a few months nowReview from Sarah G

Can you go lower than 1 star? Aside from the fact that this company don't pick up your trash (residential or commercial I hold both accounts), they don't respond to email, you spent at least 40 minutes on hold to get through to them on the phone, you can't access anything online. It's literally taken me 4 hrs on hold to cancel my account. They did NOTHING to try and keep me as a company, and when I clearly could prove they weren't servicing my property they just threw my contract at me and said read it. WORST COMPANY EVER!!!Review from John B

This business has not picked up trash on the days that it is supposed to and then comes by at very unpredictable times when they are picking up trash on the day they are supposed to. The customer services was very bad and the representative stated she is aware of the fact that they have a F BBB rating and that this is just because of the customers and that they are not responsible for improving their ratings or services.Review from Jason R

I have been a customer of this business for over 7 years. There have been on and off again issues with trash pickup. Trash will remain for an extra day past the regular pickup date. During a recent winter storm in January 2022, we were notified that trash pickup would be cancelled for the week of January 3. Fair enough....there was 14 inches of snow. However, we were told service would resume the following week. After a total of 17 days, three separate calls to their "customer service" line, 1.5 hours on hold, and two guarantees that it will be picked up, trash is still piling out of my can. Their service agreement isn't by number of pickups per month, it is by "tonnage". That's all well and good, but when you are only given one garbage can for two plus weeks of trash, you run out of room quickly. Neighborhood also isn't designed to just pile trash on the curb for multiple days waiting for pickup. Extremely disappointed in this company, their customer service response, and overall attitude towards their customers. I will be cancelling my service after this month and do not recommend this company to any residence or business.Review from Jaime W

I tried calling County Waste to cancel my service beginning in September and finally reached customer support via email on Nov 9. I requested that my service be cancelled effective immediately. They responded and confirmed that it would be canceled immediately. They have yet to pick up the trash cans and still do not answer their phones. We have been customers for many years and had good experiences - the staff and drivers were friendly and responsive and generally on time. HOWEVER, our garbage was not picked up for three weeks. We found out from neighbors that they no longer pick up on 'side streets'. I would understand that, but no one told us a thing. We tried calling multiple times. No one ever answers. I had to send an email to the parent company just to make sure there was proof of our cancellation. I did not pay the October bill (obviously), but I prepaid for September, which means I did not receive service I paid for. Technically, they owe us money. We finally had to find a new company to empty the County Waste trash and bring us new bins. Incredibly disappointing. We are now the 5th family I know of in this neighborhood alone who has found new service because of their lack of communication.Review from Mark M

County Waste is the absolute worst. They just randomly stopped picking up my garbage (they did pick my neighbors up). I spent close to 3 hours on hold with their customer service and never was able to speak to an agent and have sent over 5 emails with no response. I wish I could give them 0 stars. Do not do business with these people!!!
