Flooring contractor installed the floor 2 weeks ago (5/30/24)I was charged over twice what their original estimate was. At the end of the job, they added on even more 'change orders' charges, for picking up the flooring and bringing it to the job, and for putting the kitchen appliances back, and for hauling out the old flooring.(which are a normal part of the job).I was charged over $5,000 to tear out and install less than 800sq.ft of flooring. They also broke the toilet while re-doing the bathroom floor, and will not reply as to when they will have the part and come fix it. The toilet leaked onto the new floor and the caulking seeped out. I have not received any reply from them on when they are planning to come fix it, it has been two weeks.Business response

The client was given an original bid of $3,850 before tax, $4,181.10 after tax for this job which they agreed to. After our job was completed there was additional work that still needed fixed from a previous contractor. We asked if the client would like to have us finish up this fix it work and let her know that it would involve a change order since there would be more work done for the client, hence the pricing would then change. The change order bid was $810 before tax which changes the total price to $5,060.76 including tax (without tax it's $4,660). The toilet tank lid was cracked during the job which we did acknowledge and did place an order for a new one. While we were waiting for the toilet tank lid to be delivered the client had filed a complaint with the BBB. We did try multiple times to reach out to the client and were ignored. Subsequently we delivered the toilet tank lid to the clients front stoop without receiving a response.

I am rejecting this response because:The business owner grossly overcharged for things that should have been included in a flooring job. They intentionally did not provide an itemized invoice, and when I asked for one, and left voicemails, I got no response, other than a text from the business owner asking why I needed an invoice that showed what I paid for. I had to ask multiple times, I needed to know what I paid for because the price of the job kept changing. They originally told me it was a 4 day job, and kept saying every little thing they did was going to be extra, it made no sense. Then they finished the job in 2 days and still charged way more than they originally quoted me when they were on site.
When I finally got the itemized invoice, I found out they had charged me $675 for bringing the flooring to the jobsite. (which I had called them when the flooring order was placed, asking if they pickup flooring and bring to job and they said yes, not at all indicating there was a $675 fee for this) This was a very small job (approx 700 sq. ft of flooring). They did not tell me they were charging $675 for an hour of picking up flooring (regular part of the job in every other flooring contractor).
They also charged me $270 to put the appliances back in place in the kitchen, after they installed the floor. There was absolutely no indication that I was going to be charged extra for putting the applicances back. This should never have been a "change order".
They also added a "change order" for disposal of the old floor of $340. This also should have been included as part of the job. Makes no sense that these are all "change orders". Clearly none of these are things they would not have already known about before they even started.
I contacted the business owner many times to try to get the toilet lid replaced. He answered once and said he ordered it, but he would not indicate when it was ordered or what the *** was on it. He ignored me when I asked. At one point he actually sent a text saying he had it but chose not to drop it off. (I'm assuming because I had filed a complaint).
More weeks went by, still no toilet lid. (he had it, but refused to drop it off). I finally had a friend call him, and he hung up on her. That day, he did drop it off.
Overall, this business owner took advantage, over-charged, was disrespectful and unprofessional.
I am requesting that the above "change order" charges be refunded, as these should never have been added as separate orders onto a job that was already overpriced.
I deeply regret that I made payment to the pushy business owner already, and have done my best to share my experience with as many people as possible, in the hopes of preventing others from this experience.
Sincerely,
