Our Father passed away leaving my sister and myself his home. Our niece was staying there, she changed the locks and refused to leave. I started the eviction through the court and she was served. She obtained an attorney so I figured I better get one too. I did not have any money for a lawyer but l started looking for one anyway. I found an attorney on ********** the morning of the hearing that said he would charge $700. I paid him with my debit card and he said to ask the judge for a continuance and my attorney would file a letter of appointment or something like that. The judge would not continue. He dismissed the case because I completed the paperwork wrong. My niece had vacated the property though. The judge said to call a locksmith and secure property. I called ******************* to let him know. He said he could handle the probate case and apply the $700 to that. He would even give us a discount. He normally charges $2500 but would charge $2000 and apply the $700 already paid leaving a balance of $1300. Once the $1300 was paid I never heard from him again. He would not take my calls, return calls or emails. I filed a complaint with the state bar but it turns out ******************* is not an attorney and they only handle attorney complaints. They said they spoke with him and he said he never told me he was an attorney and that he did my eviction case but there was never any mention of a probate case or $1300. Both lies by the way. He told me he was an attorney and I have receipts and emails from him including a receipt for a retainer fee for the probate case. This man scammed us by claiming to be an attorney. He never had the intention of handling any court case. He just took the money for doing nothing. He took advantage of us when we were vulnerable after losing our father and needed legal assistance. He scammed us and is a straight up liar and thief.
