      This is the worst company I've worked with in years of renting. Whatever you do, DO NOT work with them, especially if you're a woman. As a college student not knowing better, I rented an apartment at the company's ************************* property in the Salem Arts Building. The apartment looked fine at first, but after moving in I quickly discovered that the dryer and stove hood vented freely back into the apartment, and the fan in the bathroom (where the dryer was located) barely ran. This resulted in constant dripping and standing water in the bathroom, leading to mildew on the ceiling and black mold in the walls. I discovered this arrangement was not up to state building code (which requires all dryers and stove hoods vent outside), and the annual inspector agreed with me, although he pressured the inspector into not reporting it.This manager, ***************************, was condescending and rude throughout all my subsequent interactions with him. He largely ignored my emails, replying sporadically and meanly, and on the one subsequent occasion he came out to look at the issue would do nothing but talk about how the moisture was a result of my lifestyle (apparently implying that since I'm a woman I take excessive showers) and that I was unreasonable, expecting a "hermetically-sealed environment." This resulted in my ultimately having to reach out to corporate and, as a 20-year-old college junior, threaten legal action against this manager and the company, just to get the lease break fee reduced by 50% to allow me to move out.This apartment also had no opening windows, meaning the only way to air out moisture, smoke from oven cleaning, etc. was to open the door to the shared hallway. I can't imagine living there during COVID, because that door also had 2' under it with no weatherstripping, meaning all air was shared with the hallway. In terms of security, this door only had a bedroom-style push-button lock, which felt less than secure when drunk bar patrons would wander up and rattle k**** and pound on door during the night.When I moved out, the company immediately rented the apartment to another person, leaving so little time in between that it's impossible for them to have made any repairs. Since this experience, I will do anything never to work with this company again.

      This former tenant moved out nearly two years ago. The delayed review is curious. Further, for the record, the previous owner designed, planned, and built-out the apartments in this vintage building. They were inspected by the city and received final occupancy permits just before 2015. When this tenant moved in and first complained about the lack of a dryer vent, we immediately ordered a Haier washer dryer ventless combo. It worked fine in that space for quite some time, but then needed a repair. The unit was under warranty and we ordered the part. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, the part took a long time to arrive. In the meantime, the building has a laundry room for tenants. Further, it is quite common for apartments (and homes) to have stove hood vents that vent back out into the kitchen. In older buildings, this is sometimes the only option. Since the washer/dryer part took so long and the tenant obviously was unhappy, we agreed to discount the early termination fee, and re-lease the unit to another renter. Since then, to the best of our knowledge, weve had no further issues with the unit. The current tenant has not made us aware of any issues at least.
