2/25/22 NYS Enterprises was scheduled to repave our driveway. The crew arrived promptly and it was interesting to watch (from inside the house) how they dug up the top layer of the previous asphalt with a machine which made all the air outside the house dusty with ash. After the new asphalt was applied, the crew left without letting us know they were finished. From a distance when I came out of the front door, the driveway looked a lot better than how it looked before. Then I noticed ash all over the garage door and front of house, on the porch, and on our two cars on our lawn. (These I had to clean off.) The end sections of the edge along the grass side were noticeably wobbly, one section being rough instead of having a smooth curve down to the grass like most of it was between the ends, and a section in the middle of the edge on the hedge side was quite rough instead of having the same curve down to the ground like the rest of it. Also, there were quite a few dips and gouges in various places all over the driveway. After a rain, I found out there were two areas in particular where puddles were sitting. 3/9 I sent an email to the company asking about these concerns, with pictures so they could see what I was talking about. I received an email back the same day stating all the concerns were being addressed and someone would get in touch with me to resolve them. On the same day, I received an email from a company rep to schedule a day to meet.

Syds driveway has no slope and you cant guarantee perfect water flow at 1% in our industry. But we achieved it and returned to resolve her concerns when we really did not have to.  We even seal coated the driveway.  Its very little indentations in her driveway that nobody would see unless you really zoom in up close per her photos.  Her driveway has really good compaction and we used Mod B asphalt per the proposal.High-quality asphalt mix for residential. It will last 30 years! She is talking about esthetic to an unbelievable degree. The Structure and quality are beyond industry standards.  Below is email chain after we returned to fix the asphalt where *** was acknowledging the asphalt being fixed and did not bring any issues to our attention. we also got a email from *** after the original install acknowledging the job well done and with some concerns, which is why we returned to address her concerns.  We have gone above and beyond to respond and provide resolution.

      Subject: comments re driveway job

      Good Morning,

I wanted to let you know that, overall, your crew did a great job redoing our driveway. It looks soooo much better than it was before, all the cracks and our personal 3x3 pond are gone!

A few things I would like to mention:

I happened to look out our living room window at one point during the job and saw one of the crew throw a cigarette **** and something else onto the driveway area. This was before that part of the driveway had asphalt placed so the items would be underneath, but to me it didnt come across as very professional. And who knows what else was discarded like that.

Also, no one came to the door to let us know the job was completed. I just realized after a while that it was quiet, so I went out and found no one there and all the trucks were gone. When I called to ask about it, I was told that it was the companys policy to avoid engaging with the resident. There was no invitation to discuss how the driveway looked or if there were any questions. I can accept that this may be your companys policy, but to me its not very professional.

I noticed after the crew left that the steps to the porch had been mostly cleaned off from the asphalt dust, but the porch itself was covered with it. I swept it off but I was surprised that it hadnt been cleaned by the crew. Our two cars, which were sitting in the front yard, were covered with the dust also.
The front of the house was dirty from the dust and I was told that the crew was supposed to have blown it off,but there was still lots of dust which we had to clean off. (see pic)

There are a few things I would like to mention about the driveway and am asking if someone at your company is able to assist me in knowing how to fix them.

For instance, the 2 sides of the driveway are rather wobbly and I would like to straighten them somewhat. (see pics)

The asphalt level at the edge of the sidewalk is a little higher and I was wondering if it's possible to level it off a little. (see pic)

There are a number of small dips or gouges where it will be easy for water to accumulate rather than drain, and, going by past experience with our old driveway surface, this makes it easy to start disintegrating and causing the rocks, etc to loosen. (see pics) I would like to fill those in.

After several days of rain, after the driveway was completed, we noticed there are several small areas that arent level so the water stands instead of draining off the driveway. I would like to fill those in.

There are a couple of areas that look a little rough and I was interested in seeing if I can smooth them out.(see pics)

Again, I would appreciate it very much if someone could assist me in figuring out how to fix these situations.

      Thank you.

***'s driveway then and now in our professional experience has nothing wrong with it. She was so persistent about thinking the slow-moving water was an issue I just had guys heat it up and fix it a little. She is now complaining about the sealer and the two lines she is seeing from the trim and the spray of the middle. Sealer is not a perfect coating. It is not meant to be a perfect coating. It is a sealer. It seals your asphalt to extend its life. Its a bonus that it is black and looks nice. That is not its purpose. Everything she is complaining about is aesthetic and all is to industry standards and structurally very sound.

I have contacted both our asphalt suppliers and they will give their professional opinion and stamp it. We will forward their responses / comments on the driveway install by early next week. Before 9/1/2022.
