My car had been throwing a check engine light saying minor fuel vapor leak for approximately 3 weeks. In addition, it had been running rather rough. I found mandos on yelp and decided to give them a try. I took it in and they looked at it relatively quickly and said it needed a mass air flow sensor, air filter and intake manifold. They quoted me $1620 with labor. I returned on 1/26 to pay for the parts, and again 1/28 to have the work done. They had it for just over 2 hours and called me saying it was running like new again. I was thrilled and quickly went and picked it up. I drove to the store and then home which was only a few blocks. Over the next couple of days I didnt drive it much, but I realized it was doing the same exact thing as before. I called them and they asked me to bring it back in. I returned on 2/4 and they said everything looked good in the engine, so they suggested taking it for a test drive so I could show them what it was doing. It was then that they told me, oh yes, it needs a new transmission, and proceeded to try and quote me for that work too. I am a single mother on a tight budget, so even coming up with the $1620 was a stretch. I cant help, but think they saw me coming from a mile away as an easy target to take advantage of. Now Im out $1620 and a car.

Some time on first week of January 2023, a customer called to schedule diagnostic services for a 2013 ****** Sentra stating a lighted check engine light on the vehicles dashboard. The vehicle was scheduled for diagnostic service on Jan. 07, 2023.
The vehicle came to the shop exhibiting rough idling and engine is shaking. Diagnostic was performed by connecting the shops scanner and checking the air intake/fuel delivery system. Scan result showed a P0101 code which pertains to air intake issue of the vehicle. No fault code showed on engine transmission. The scan result was discussed with the customer and the technician recommended to replace the following parts to address the issue: Mass Air Flow sensor, Air filter and Intake manifold runner. The intake manifold runner is part of the intake manifold assembly and will have to be procured from a ****** dealership as an assembly. An estimate was provided to the customer for approval.

The customer called the shop the following week and stated to proceed with the repair. We told the customer need to sign and approve the estimate and that a downpayment for the parts is required since some of the parts are on special order.  The parts were ordered after approval of estimate and receipt of downpayment.

The repair was performed on January 28, 2023. During the repair procedure, the technician also found a gap on the intake manifold assembly that *** cause air leakage. After the repair procedure was done, the engine performed satisfactorily and subsequently released to the customer.

After a few days, the customer called and stated the vehicle has no power and had a hard time climbing inclined road. The customer was scheduled to come back to the shop on February 4, 2023. The technician stated that the engine itself is still running well. The technician and the customer took the vehicle for a test drive. That is when the technician found out the transmission is slipping. Since our shop do not service transmission, our shop referred the customer to a transmission specialist which she declined and then left.

In summary, the customer brought in a 2013 ****** Sentra to our shop with a check engine light issue. We believe, the issue was correctly diagnosed and repaired. The transmission issue is a different issue/system and has to be diagnosed separately. Also, it would be very difficult to diagnose transmission issue unless the engine is running properly.

I am rejecting this response because: I explained exactly what was happening with the car, and it was doing the exact same thing after it was serviced. The engine wasnt running rough as they stated. All it would have taken was a test drive for them to see what the issue was with the transmission. It was a major stretch for me even to come up with the funds for the repairs on the engine, and I never would have done so if I had known about the transmission issue. I put my trust in these people and clearly that was a huge mistake. Im a single woman and unfortunately that seems to be what happens when women go in alone to have car repairs.

      Sincerely,

I am contacting you because you closed out my complaint, however I have not received my full refund from the merchant yet. I was going to wait to close it out until I get the funds in hand, otherwise Im afraid the businesses word is no good to me.
Please reopen the claim and I will let you know when I receive the funds. Thank you, and I look forward to hearing from you at your earliest convenience.
