I called what I thought was ************************ instead I got this company. I stated what my issue was with LiveSafe. The agent falsely stated that HP had installed on my new laptop an out of date version not compatible with Windows 11. The agent stated I needed McAfee Total Protection, he then misrepresented the product, he stated it would cover all 3 of my devices. I called real *********************** today and was told no it was just for 1 device and would cause problems if tried to use on 3 devices. ****** also stated they offered no 3 year package and I had paid a VERY high price for McAfee Total Protection. The BytesKart representative that sold me this product gave a number with his extension and an employee ID. That number does not work. I was asked what a good time would be to be called today to check on any issues with new product purchased. Of course, no one called. I called McAfee and got the real service, that's when I was made aware that I had been scammed the day before by BytreKart. I am going to try to put a stop on the check I foolishly scanned to pay for the scam product yesterday. If it has already gone through, I want a full refund from this shady company for misrepresenting the product they sold me and misrepresenting themselves as ***********************/Technical Support. I was told numerous times yesterday on the phone with ByteKart that I was speaking to ***********************.

Thank you for providing me the opportunity of addressing the complaint with the customer.  It appears that one of our sales associates went "off script" and provided confusing, if not misleading, information to Ms. ***********  After reviewing the text of the complaint, I took the issue to the Manager of our ************** in ******  He did contact Ms. ********* and was able to resolve the issue by Voiding the Sales and Support  transaction.

As a matter of established company protocol, I followed up with Ms. *** this afternoon.  I was able to address her concerns.  She was satisfied with the outcome.  There will be no charge for the Software, or any technical services that were provided.  Furthermore, I provided her with my direct phone line and encouraged her to call if there was any unforeseen outfall from her interaction with Byteskart.

Thank you again for the services you provide consumers and businesses. You play a critical role in the complicated world of digital services.

On May 28 2024 I called what I thought was McAfee. I needed to get additional antivirus protection. The person on the phone *** said that I was not covered with ******. The previous scammer Qikbay sold me a plan in June of 2023. I thought I was covered by ****** but found out qikbay had scammed me. I got the number to contact ****** off the website and thinking I was talking this time to the real ******. I agreed to a 3 year plan and they had me pay them with a check that was sent to them electronically in the amount of $476.98. After I hung up I recalled ****** and this time I did get the real company and they said they do not sell 3 yr plans. I talked to a ******* and she said to stop the payment of the check, This was within an hour of the transaction on May 28 2024. I put a stop payment through and the bank said to close out the account as they had the check and knows the account number and route number. I talked to ******* and she appologized for the problem and gave me 2 yrs of coverage at no extra cost. Byteskart phone number was on may 28th ************, Their new number is ************ and email is ******************************* Sheleka said they did not receive any payment from them. This is a duplicate complaint.  I spoke directly with the *************** this evening.  I followed up our conversation by sending the following e-mail.

      ****************,

I appreciate you taking the time to talk with me this evening. It is unfortunate that our conversation was not under the best of circumstances.

We live in a world where technology has provided many conveniences, but these have been compromised  ever growing dishonesty in the digital marketplace.

At Byteskart, we strive to provide legitimate services and products to our customers. Sometimes we fail in our interactions, as has been the case your recent purchase of McAfee software licenses. Following our conversation this evening, I understand why you were uncomfortable with the transaction.  I also believe that I was able to provide insights into how the on-line software marketplace is structured. At the end of our conversation I believe you recognized that Byteskart is a legitimate U.S. company that relies on off-shore support for sales and customer service.

Please know that you are under no further obligation to our company for the Registration Codes we provided you.  I will be in contact with our teams in ***** this evening to assure you will not receive further communication from Byteskart LLC regarding your purchase and stop payment. If there is any confusion on this agreement, you can contact me directly at the phone or e-mail listed below. These are my personal and direct points of contact.

      Sincerely,

I allowed Bytes kart to get into my computer because I thought it was part of MacAfee. I issued a check for $390.00 for additional virus protection. When I went on to my computer at a later date I realized that there was many different Gmail accounts attached to my computer. I stopped payment on my check from my bank.. Bytes Kart deposited the check electronically. They are a scam company. I notified my bank and they said the stop check was issued but they did it electronically. anyway.

We have received the complaint filed by *************************.  It is distressing to read that she believes we have compromised her computer and andriod cell phone.  Byteskart LLC is a *********************** We are licensed to provide Registration Keys to many brands, including the full line of McAfee products.

****************** contacted  Byteskart LLC on May 10, 2024.  She indicated she wished to purchase McAfee Total Protection. With her permission, we scanned her computer for any features that might prevent activiation of the McAfee Product Activation Key.  She then placed her order for a Three-year Subscription to the product in question and made payment by a Personal Check which our company deopsited electronically.  Per our usual process we then e-mailed her the Activication Key and asked that she respond to the  e-mail to confirm her receipt of the Key and that the information had been loaded and activated on her Computer and Android phone.

We did not load anything on her computer.  The Activiation Keys are single purpose for access to McAfee services.  We have attached two documents that suppport the validity of our interaction with ******************.  You will note that she was provided the information needed to contact Bygteskart by e-mail and/or phone.  We did not receive any communication from her other than her acknowledgement  of  receipt and activation of the Product Key.  If she was experiencing technical problems, she had the opportunity to e-mail our Support site, or call our ********* Services Hotline.

      (Please see attached documents.)

We cannont accept responsibility for what **************** does with her Computer or Android phones.  We certainly have not "attached many different G-mail accounts" to her computer.

On April 21, *** got a phishing popup about computer viruses. He ******d a phone number for McAfee, and got these people's number on a promoted ****** ad, which he called. They identified themselves as ******, asked for access to his computer by telling him there was a virus on his computer, compromised several of his passwords and accounts, told him his computer remained in danger, and told him he had to buy software from them. He agreed on the phone, but then nearly immediately became suspicious of several of the things that I (his stepdaughter) had told him to be concerned about from scam calls, including the computer access, and people asking for his social security number (which they had done). He called McAfee directly. They explained that this company is not an affiliate and did not have any right to claim to sell software. They explained that his existing subscription was fine (and not expired), and helped him take the phishing software off of his computer. I (stepdaughter) found their phone number and called them. When someone picked up the phone, I explained that I was trying to get them to stop emailing my stepfather. The first thing they did was ask for access to my computer and tell me that they couldn't help me unless I gave them access. I reiterated my request, and they denied ever emailing my stepfather and tried to sell me software to stop the emails from someone pretending to be them. I got connected to his "senior" who also denied that the company had ever sent emails. When I said I could prove that the emails came from the same server as their company, I was connected to a third "senior" who tried to justify taking my stepfather's money on the logic my stepfather believed his computer was at risk and agreed to pay the money. Of course, they phished and scammed him into believing that, and left traceable irrelevant data-collecting software on his computer. I mentioned this, and they threatened to hire a lawyer to "arrest" my stepfather.

      04/26/2024

I do actually want you to do something - they continue to insist on harassing my stepfather with emails, and they maintain control of several of his passwords. When I asked for 'no further contact' I actually meant for the BBB to get them to stop contacting him since I have been unable to get that to happen. The complaint was most definitely not for information only.

      Attn: BBB **************

The complaint outlined in this communication was first brought to my attention this evening.  I  am concerned about the purported behaviors of our sales and technical support staff.  The complaint indicates there have been harassing emails from Byteskart LLC, repeated phone calls in whcih our company is  accused of phishing and scamming the customer into "paying the money."  What was described is totally outside the processes that should be stricktly followed by our employees.  In fact, what the complainant describes does not make sense from a technical standpoint.  Finally, we NEVER ask a customer to provide their social security number, and  have never threatened.to ..." hire a lawyer to arrest"...anyone.

Ths customer indicates that she can prove the communications in question can be traced to a specific server.  In order to continue our investigation I request that she provide documentation to support this claim.  In addition, I am asking that she provide the telephone number called that initiated all transactions. Finally, I need the amount and dates of any payments made to our company.

There are more than ******* software firms in the *************. There have been many instances where an unknown company has represented itself as Byteskart LLC.  We do our best to track down and report disreputible companies to appropriate agencies.

We ask that the requested information be sent to the undersigned within 15 days. This will allow us to research our internal records to determine what role, if any, our company had in these tranactions.

I assure you that I will hold all this information Confidential in our administative headquarters in *****, ***********

      Complaint: 21625749

I am rejecting this response - there are a lot of reasons. The first is the sliding between companies. I'm not sure if this is a cut-and-paste response to other BBB complaints or not, but, of course, our complaint is against Bytesguard rather than Byteskart. When I (*****) called Bytesguard (with the number on the Bytesguard website), the first two people I talked to denied having any record of their company interacting with ***, despite my providing his information. I got passed on from person to person, and the third person recognized interacting with ***, saying "we were all looking at Byteskart when he interacted with Bytesguard." This was the first I learned about Byteskart - which was apparently not only answering the phones at Bytesguard but the default response to the phones? I was quite confused, but honestly at that point (20 minutes into the phone call) not that surprised since I'd already been asked to give access to my computer three times even after I'd specified that I didn't have a technical problem and didn't even own a PC.

In response to the phishing initially, *** called **************.

I called ************** for customer service. I called only once and was transferred on that line three times. This is the phone number on the Bytesguard website alongside an address in ********, ******. I called on 25th April at 1244pm central time. At that point I presume I am talking to Bytesguard (though that seemed to be false for the first two representatives I talked to). The third person I talked to did identify ***'s account, so I presume that I was always talking to people affiliated with the company that scammed ***, since the transfers of the call were internal. The third person I talked to had conflicting stories - first they said that the invoice did not come from the company (much like the denial in the response to the complaint here), and then when I suggested that the metadata from the email refers to the same server that the company website was at, he changed his story to argue that *** actually owed them money. I explained that ****** had identified tracing software they had put on his computer, and that we would not be paying an invoice where they convinced him he had a problem, charged him to access his computer, then installed predatory software, and that we would be working directly with ******. That is when he insisted that 'honest work' was done, and asked me for the password to ***'s McAfee account (which they had changed to lock *** out, btw). I told him that we would not be providing that, and that their predatory services weren't of interest. The person then said that they would hire an attorney and seek payment. Having a law degree myself, I told him to go ahead. That's when he said that people get arrested for not paying their bills.

*** has made no payments to the company (companies?), nor will he be doing so. Our request is that the company stop sending him invoices.

I think the smokescreen of byteskart/bytesguard, the email address below not on the company server when there is a company server, etc. are all further evidence of questionable business practices. Whether these people are in ********** or in ******, whatever company they are, I just want them out of my stepfather's life - it is stressful to a man with a heart condition for no reason, and has already cost a lot of time and money to re-secure his small online footprint after this invasion.

We reiterate that we have no record of transactions with this individual.  Certainly, it would be in our best interest to resolve this matter, as the continued harassment of the "Customer" reflects poorly on our business.  We would like to point out that Byteskart LLC and Bytesguard LLC are two divisions of the same parent company.

Understand that we are trying to work with the Complainant to provide the solution she requests. We have asked that the "Customer" provide the  full email address of the company that is sending threatening notices.  That will allow our technical staff to attempt to determine the origin of the e-mails. Also, we ask that the "Customer" provide the telephone number (and date) that was called at the very beginning of the purported contact with Byteskart and/or Bytesguard.

We will do everything possible to determine the origin of the e-mails.

First, I did provide the information about the email - ******************** Second, I resent 'customer' being in scare quotes when -I called their number- and not only did they acknowledge that they had talked to him, they -threatened- to collect from him and -wouldn't release him- from being their so-called customer even though he hadn't been so voluntarily. Just so you know, part of my concern was the hidden links between these companies, and one's phone number calling another without my knowledge.

      Business response

      05/23/2024

      Good Evening,

As noted above, this is ***************************.  I am the *** of Bytesguard LLC and Byteskart LLC.  I thought it was important to mention this one more time, since there are two divisions of the *******, Byteskguard is intended to be self-service and Byteskart more personally interactive.

I puzzled over this complaint before providing my initial response.  The Complainant indicates that her step-father was concerned about a Phishing pop-up he saw on his computer.  My immediate reaction was that we do not advocate Phishing as a means of attracting customers.  Reading more carefully, I understand that he was concerned and, therefore, Googled McAfee. By chance, he landed on our site. (There are more than 100k Software resellers globally.)

The Customer called the Bytesguard support number.  ************.  It appears he felt pressured into allowing our staff to check the health of his computer.  ( It is standard practice for our ******* to do this.) We do not place any type of malware on a computer.  We do point out  potential problems to the "Customer."  We do not threaten anyone, nor do we ask for confidential information.  No individual on our Sales or Technical Support teams would ask for a Social Security number.  We are clear in on-boarding staff that this would result in immediate termination of employment.

At this point, the Complainant indicated that **************** contacted ****** directly. Apparently, he was told the Bytesguard had no right to sell McAfee software.  This is not true.   Although, we are not a Channel Partner, we are allowed to sell Registration Keys, that are provided to our Broker by ******.

Now, I am not sure who is e-mailing, or calling ****************.  Are all of the calls originating from  ************?   This would be contrary to ****************** policy.  Is it possible the the ****** ******** ******* was also  a reseller?

Finally, I am surprised that ******************** step daughter would spout unfounded accusations about our *******.  If she is indeed a ********** Graduate, she should know that this is unacceptable in any situation.  In an effort to clear-up this mess, I called **************** and left my direct number in his voice mail.   He failed to return my call.

I am asking the following:   1) the phone number of the second ******** ******* he contacted. 2) Copies of any Invoices that he received from "Bytesguard," 3) the dates of any communication from anyone representing themselves as Bytesguard, Byteskart and ******.

      Complaint: 21625749

      Dear all,

I sent the invoice with the initial complaint - if the documentation has been lost because of the transfer between BBBs, let me know, and I'll resend it (I'm suspicious that this might have been in part the intent of this "business"). The invoice came from ******************* and the phone calls came from ************, and the dates were detailed in my initial complaint as well. I'm not crazy about re-writing the same thing because the "business" that claimed to be in ****** actually is not. Calling the actual McAfee is of course accomplished by calling ************, which *** did after he hung up with this "business" and figured out that they weren't McAfee.

While I appreciate the jeers about my character, the accusations are not unfounded. In an attempt not to involve the BBB, I called the number for Bytesguard myself, as detailed in the original complaint. Despite clearly articulating that I was looking for customer service about their relationship with someone else, the person who picked up the phone immediately asked to send a link for access to my computer. When I said no, and that I was interested in talking about their relationship with my stepfather, the person pressed and said we could talk about it when they were checking on my computer with the link. I told him no a second time, and he started detailing the risks to my computer. I told him that I did not even have a PC, and he told me to call back later. Only after the fourth back-and-forth did I get him away from trying to take over my computer for a completely unrelated phone call. Had I been a less tech-saavy 80-year-old man who called because he thought they were ******, for example, I certainly would have fallen for it. The con was quite good.

The emails to my stepfather have stopped since I started this complaint, which I appreciate may be a tacit admission, but either way, I am happy they have stopped. That said, it seems to me that this business is doing this with regularity, which is deeply problematic.

      Sincerely,

      ************************* on behalf of *************************

We do not understand why the BBB indicated the customer rejected the resolution offered by Bytesguard LLC.  We provided responses to her criticisms.  Also, we have met with our seventy-four employees to verify they are adhering to all operational policies.  We are not sure of the origins of the reported threatening phone calls or emails.  Fortunately, they have stopped.

Bytesguard LLC and Byteskart LLC are divisions of the same company. We cannot control her suspicions regarding either operation. The ********* ****** location was a legitimate branch of the company.  We have closed that branch due to productivity issues.

At this point it is unclear what further resolution the complainant is requesting.  We would appreciate any clarification that you might provide.

I am rejecting this response because I think that I see no indication that the predatory business practices will change. They have stopped going after the person who complained, but they exhibited the same behavior when I called, and likely do that to countless other (especially senior) people. Also the ****** location exists and is a part of the business but is also closed? When the invoice they sent was from that location? While I don't want anything else -for us- I am concerned that there are others who will go through what we went through and not be lucky enough to come out of it by complaining to the BBB and getting the bad behavior to stop.

On January 8th I ordered a McAfee three year subscription for my computer with ********************************* of BytesKarp . He took a scan of the check for $249.99 for protection from my computer but was not supposed to cash it. He told me to mail the check to them and I did. But when I checked my account they had cashed both the scan for protection and the written paper check. Therefor I ended up paying double for the three year subscription I had ordered. I have tried several times to get them to refund me the extra $249.99 but no help. I even had another party call them but no help. I have called McAfee but they were not at all helpful. Being an elderly retiree on fixed income I would appreciate getting a refund for the second $249.99.

Happened over the phone on 12-5-23. Byteskart explained that I had been hacked and needed to update my McAfee in order to be safe. They explained that they were the part of ****** & that dealt with clearing up scans. I had been receiving a lot of scam notices on my **************** so I believed them. They explained in order to upgrade my McAfee account & clear these scams it would be $599.99 for a 5 year subscription & would solve all the problems. They had me scan a check for $599.99 to them - Check#**** ************* After thinking about it & realizing this was way too much for normal protection I tried calling them with no answer. I filled a complaint with my bank but they said they weren't able to do anything. I then contacted the real ****** and they said this had been a *************************** had actually lowered the protection package I had already purchased with ****** & had lesser protection & just for a couple of years, not five. ****** raised my protection level back to what I had originally purchased. ****** told me these scams purchase McAfee cards at places like ******* for small amounts & then scam people like me for large amounts of money. I let the scammers into my computer which I know was so stupid now. I have closed that bank account & opened a new one but not sure what else I can do. Please help.

Thank you for your patience as the staff at Byteskart LLC reviewed all pertinant information regarding your complaint. We take excepiton to your suggestion that Byteskart, LLC scammed you.  The picture you paint does not really start at the beginning of our interaction with you.  I wish to make it perfectly clear that you contacted our company looking for a Antivirus/Antimalware software package.  After examining your computer{s) out technical staff determined that your equipment had been severrely compromised. At that point a sales representative provided you with several options. You were not misinformed, Byteskart is a certified sales outlet for ******* products. It may interest you to know that we are one of more than ******* providers of registered, downloadable software titles. The ******* package you selected was one of their top of the line solutions. I would suggest that, whichever vendor you chose to review your computers took advantage of your vulnarability. We  cannot  be held responsible for your decision to undo the the Registration Certification we provided.

We find it interesting that you waited almost three months to file your complaint. You had ample time to contact our company to voice your concerns.  The documentation of the sales transactions that occurred in December are attached to the response. You were provided technical services, Registration Codes for one desk top and three PC's. I addition, Byteskart has guaranteed unlimited  technical service to your computers, computer peripherals and Wifi related equipment for one full year. We stand behind the multi-year product you purchased and will contunue to be availble to provide technical support until    December 6, 2024. I suggest you take advantage of the package you purchased.

      Sincerely,

On April 29, 2023, I remitted a payment of $499.99 to Byteskart LLC for a one-year service maintenance plan for my computer and website, Kacius Physical Therapy LLC. Subsequently, on November 27, 2023, when I attempted to engage their services by both email and phone, my efforts were met with silence. Regrettably, not only did Byteskart LLC fail to respond to my communication, but a recorded message indicated that the provided phone number was no longer valid. Despite reaching out via email, no reply was received.I kindly request the Better Business Bureau (BBB) of **************** to conduct an investigation into the practices of this business, as I believe they may be engaging in deceptive practices. Furthermore, I seek assistance in reclaiming the $250 US, corresponding to the remaining six months of the contract, considering the business has failed to fulfill its commitment to provide additional services. Your intervention would be greatly appreciated in resolving this matter.

      To BBB and complainant:

Byteskart.com was unaware of technical difficulties relating to access to our *************************** until mid-December. For some unknown reason, any Customer attempting to call was mistakenly directed to a standard recording at our phone and data service provider.

Even though this situation was outside our control, we understand the concern described by the Customer.

We propose the following remedy: 1) We will issue a refund to the Customer.  2) We will continue to provide technical support to the Customer per the terms of the Service Agreement. This in consideration of the inconvenience experienced by the Customer.

We hope this solution is agreeable to the Customer.
