Date: June ******* Olympia Pet Emergency discriminated against me and withheld potentially lifesaving information from be because I did not have money right then and there. They would not provide me with an estimate of costs so that I could get the money to diagnose and treat, potentially saving my kittens life. They just kept asking how much money I had. Ultimately, this led to NY kitten being euthanized.Business response

We understand how stressful and scary it can be ******* a beloved family pet to the emergency hospital. Mr/***************** had to go through this experience with their sweet kitten ***** on 06.26.2023.
*****, was presented to our hospital with the following symptoms, per the owner(s) explanation: vomiting, lethargic, and painful. ***** was examined by the veterinarian on duty that day and made diagnostic recommendations based on her examination and symptoms that were listed. The diagnostics were recommended so that the veterinarian could get an idea of what might be going on internally, which would allow us to treat appropriately. Without conclusive diagnostics, we would be unable to treat the underlying condition. The recommendations were:
Emergency Consultation (which had been done) $170.00
Radiographs (3 views) with a radiologist specialist consultation (sent to a board certified radiograph specialist) $301.50 (+specialist consultation $222) $523.50
Blood Panel $346.50
Urinalysis $0-150.00
Medications/Injections (this was included on the financial estimate in the event of hospitalization/extensive treatment) $300-400.00
An estimate was presented and signed by the owner (see attachment) approving the estimate that had a range of $1340 - 1545.00. The owner signed that diagnostics were approved; however, also informed us that there were financial concerns. The family did have a $250 voucher from ******************* organization that could be applied to services; however, we would have needed a deposit on the estimate in the amount of $1340 before we starting diagnostics. The assistant that presented the estimate to the family did ask if there were any additional funds that they could put towards the $250 voucher and we were told an additional $150 was available ($400 total)
The assistant recommended that the family try to apply for **********, Care Credit, and/or even attempt to contact ******************* for an increase in the voucher amount; and in the meantime they would speak with the attending veterinarian to go over family's financial concerns and ask if there was anything we could do within those parameters. Because the veterinarian needed basic diagnostic results to move forward with any sort of treatment or medications administration, we were unable to do anything within the $400 parameter.
The veterinarian spoke with the family in regards to *****'s current prognosis without diagnostics and or treatment. Due to the level of pain that ***** was experiencing and in his best interest, the veterinarian recommended humane euthanasia so that suffering would not be prolonged. The family agreed and signed the consent form prior to the euthanasia. The invoice total was $231.50; however the veterinarian preformed the euthanasia and cremation at no charge. The account does reflect that the family paid $31.50 (invoice attached.) Because ******************* are the ones that provided the $250 voucher any requests for a refund must come through them.
We understand how hard it is to make the decision of euthanasia, even when it is in the best interest of our beloved pets; and we extend our deepest sympathy to the Mourin Family -- and any family -- that has to make the decision.

We went to them because Our cat was extremely sick and had just left another er vet the previous night. He was diagnosed with asthma and the vet gave us 3 written prescriptions that we had to fill. They were no where to be found at any local vet, regular pharmacy or other vendors. We had to look at online pharmacies and we were charged ****** and then once again took our back to our own vet when they opened. He was completely misdiagnosed and didnt need any of this medicine. The online pharmacy cant take them back. I feel Oly Er Vet should pay us for them and we will gladly hand the unopened box of medicine over to them. They misdiagnosed and we would never of boughten this medicine without the er vet directing us to. They wont return our calls on this.
