I am filing this complaint because Avvo has allowed false and defamatory information about me to exist on its website for more than two years. Avvo created an attorney profile of me without my knowledge or consent. I never saw this profile until today - September 10, 2024. The professional information in the profile is not correct. Of more concern is that Avvo allowed two anonymous persons to post false information about me in the form of a "review." Avvo now wants me to pay Avvo to "claim" my profile so it can be reviewed. I had no cases at the time the reviews were posted that match the descriptions in the reviews. This appears to be a scam to get me to pay Avvo to claim my profile and address the reviews. I demand that both reviews be deleted and removed immediately. I cannot believe the anonymous reviews were posted with no notice to me and they have been up there without opportunity for me to respond for 2 and 3 years. I also request that my entire profile be deleted. Thank you.Initial Complaint

I was induced into sign a 12 months agreement from a representative named *******************- he promised that the very same day they would call me to set up my account and two weeks went by and no one contacted me. They finally contacted me after I asked to cancel- now they intimate I have to pay $2800 penalty.Business response

I am an attorney, and this platform was used as a tool of menace by an ex claiming to have consulted with me during a time when I did not consult with clients, and the ex used it to write a false statement to disparage my reputation. Now this review comes up when my name is entered into a Google search as one of the top 4 or 5 links. The review is currently posted to my Avvo profile by someone that did not consult with me, and the review contains false information. It violates Avvo's community guidelines in several ways. I have tried to reach out Avvo through their online message system, social media messenger, and telephone, and I have received no response. They claim their response time is within 24 hours.Business response

This company doesn't post, valid, negative reviews. I did 3 reviews o. 3 lawyers to share my experience. I received a return email stating discrepancies in the reviews. I fix the discrepancies but this company hasn't posted my reviews. This isn't a review service, it refuses to post anything unfavorable. This company is not what it says it is. Guess I'll do reviews on all the honest, review sites. I post reviews so people can read my experience. It should be posted either good or bad. Stay away from Avvo, they only post reviews that will line their pockets.Initial Complaint

Over the past 12 months myself and several others have attempted to post honest, fact based, proveable negative reviews about attorney ************************* of **************, He is currently under investigation with the ******************* for unethical practices related to my case.I, along with several siblings hired him to handle my brothers estate. We have all attempted to leave our reviews online in order to warn others of horrific experience with ******************.. this was very important to us because most people that are hiring an estate attorney, are doing so while they are grieving the death of a loved one, and he has made this process all that more difficult for us. Every website that posts reviews about attorneys have posted our reviews with the exception of Avvo.They absolutely refuse to post any negative reviews. This is an EXTREMELY common complaint concerning AVVO. There are hundreds of people that have had the same experience with them that have left statements on places like trust pilot and Reddit and the Better Business Bureau. All of the statements made about AVVO seem to be the same and that is that they refuse to be honest when it comes to negative reviews. They simply refuse every negative review that is submitted to them, often using fake reasons. One of their favorite denial phrases is "you have no proof" however when we have received that "denial message" we then submitted proof via email and they have ignored every single email we sent in which we included proof of the accusations we made in our reviews. This happened over and over for a total of 23 separate negative reviews by different victims all of which were denied by AVVO. No matter how much proof is submitted, they will simply not post honest negative reviews, therefore they're positive reviews in my mind should not be trusted either..Supporting documents such as emails from AVVO as well as all correspondence with ************************* can be provided upon requestInitial Complaint

05/29/2024 My name is ***************************** I am filing a complaint with Avvo.com company today,... My Avvo.com account is associated with email: ******************************* On May 26, 2024 I asked a legal-question,... I have been to Several Legal-Clinics all across the ***,... When I get accepted into there program they will make a Future-Date with me to talk about my Legal concern to an Attorney but they never give me the attorneys name, is that Legal and or normal?..Curious~ anonymous A volunteer attorney named: ***************************** responded to it, later the same day on May 26th 2024 But I feel like he has not given me a straight-forward/ Legit answer to the original legal question I asked?.....I will be providing a Photo picture in this complaint so that www.Avvo.com knows what Im talking about on not getting a correct response and strait forward answer.I would like it on Avvos end if they can please Block attorney ***************************** from my account and get a different attorney to answer my original question, please if possible,....I also have 4 other Questions on my Avvo account that still have not been answered yet so, if possible I would like to ask Avvo to help find attorneys to help answer, them.Thank you for your help and time,.....*****************************-Initial Complaint

They continually claim "language," though my language is obviously NOT in violations of any rule, and specifically reports on exactly what i've experienced, what occurred, and that the attorney is horrible. I will copy/paste my latest "rejected" complaint/review about *********************, or ***************************** (attorney out of *********, **, below): They are broadly applying a false claim of "language not for community forum," to protect attorneys, a.k.a. future potential ************** ******* are MANY supporting complaints about Avvo, or MArtindale-Avvo, attempting to filter out any negative review. They either need to have some sort of oversight, and/or have some sort of claim informing potential viewers that they "may choose to reject, or remove any review, for any reason," to ensure the viewers can discern their lack of objectivity, and lack of credibility as a "review" site. Avvo, IS rejecting, obviously, out of a personal motive. Relying on Avvo (Martindale-Avvo) to decide if an attorney is "good," is like relying on a convicted/proven bank robber to answer whether he thinks "robbery" should be penalized with long prison sentences. There are many, many complaints about Martindale-Avvo, or their sister site Avvo, absolutely refusing to allow a real, factual based, review, that is negative. This site, absolutely participating in fraudulent, discriminative, and subjective practices. it touts itself as a reliable, credible, honest "review" site, when in actuality it seems, from any reports, to be more like "black-mailing, or "strong-arming" site, which uses concern of such, to attempt to coerce attorneys into subscription-based services, to make money. Though this website is not one i'd rely upon either, it gives insight and research info., into Martindale-Avvo, or Avvo. - ******************************************************************** ; AVVO has conflict of interest due to potential monetary gains, to filter neg. reviews. DO NOT RELY ON AVVO...they reject/remove negative reviews,Customer response

This "clarification" request from the *** makes NO SENSE. I filed a complaint, with detailed information. I then received this email, later, requesting "consumer action," and the action is apparently to submit a "clarification," yet the ** clarification request does NOT clarify what it is the BBB is requesting to be "clarified," and simply brings me to this input page, to add clarification. MY complaint is very simple, as are the MANY others regarding whom I filed the complaint about, to BBB. They are a scam, they fraudulently claim that ANY review claiming any "negative" about an attorney, is not able to be posted to their alleged "attorney review" site, and utilize false claims about "language" and other such fraudulent claims, to attempt to explain their refusal to post such negative reviews. I've re-submitted my review more times than I could tell you here, and each has been "rejected," and recently they were "rejecting" them IMMEDIATELY after my submission, whereas prior, they were submitted, then the status was "waiting for review," then, they were rejected,.. which proves they are simply attempting to prevent ANY negative review about the attorney from being posted. I have screen shots of that as well. The bottom line is that they are obviously NOT an "objective" review site, and many attorneys have also complained about them using tactics of "we'll clean up the online reviews on our site if you just subscribe and pay us" style approaches. If you simply did a little research, you'd see that their "review" site is owned by their parent company, which offers subscription services to attorneys. It's not hard to find this stuff. I know they aren't going to fix the issues, and I KNOW you can't force them to, but I WANT the complaint loggged publicly online, on the BBB site, as more documenting of their subjective, fraudulent, and shady practices, both with regard to rejecting ANY negative reviews, as well as their attempted "strong arming" of attorneys to subscribe to "clean up" bad reviews as have been both reported MANY ***********************, at *** and MANY other places.
They reject any negative reiews. Further, they have started pre-rejecting all of my revisions, and re-submissions, of my negative review of *********************, *****************************...same person.

They censor bad reviews against attorneys and you are left to take matters into your own hands to get results that work for you... not Avvo.I'm doing this as a PSA to ensure their employees are not kidnapped or assaultedBusiness response
