Was having a S&J engine professionally installed in my truck. After break-in period and some time after I was on a trip to ******* when the vehicle broke down. After getting the vehicle towed back home to the shop that installed the engine. Six months later another engine is installed but S&J to this day has failed to pay the labor portion of their warrantee to the local shop that installed the replacement engine. I have refused to take possession of the truck in fear that S&J will not pay the warrantee portion of the labor cost and leave me to be liable for the balance. I am retired living on Social Security so my resources are limited.

I purchased a 390 FE **** engine from S&J in 10/04/2022 for installation in a 64 Galaxie. Was told 12 weeks for delivery. Was told that break in oil would be shipped with the engine, was not. Was also charged 85$ for engine painting, Not done. When the engine arrived 02/13/23 (one month late) un painted with no break in oil, I contacted *** in the tech department, he told me he would credit my credit card, (not done). After I installed the engine I realized it was a **** part number on the block and had no boss on the block to accommodate an alternator, which my car was equipped with on the old engine. I then had to fabricate a bracket in order to install the alternator. On initial start up I noticed a valve train noise within minutes. I realize that sometimes during startup this could be normal. As I ran the engine further at **** rpm the noise got louder. I pulled the ** valve cover and there was a **** gap between the #5 cylinder rocker arm and valve stem. Once again I called and spoke with ***. He sent me lifters and when I attempted to remove the old lifters I realized the camshaft had failed along with 5 other lifters. Called ***, he said camshafts were not covered under S&J engine warranty.(warranty I was charged $250 for) *** then told me he would send me a new Camshaft. That was 3 weeks ago and he is not returning my repeated phone calls. I am now faced with no returned calls, an engine that had metal from the cam and lifters sent through the engine, and countless hours of labor, out of pocket $ for oil, coolant, and NO CAMSHAFT. S&J engines has horrible customer service and, are not trustworthy. I worked as a professional tech for 30 years in **** Dealerships. Don't be fooled by S&J engines, they apparently have no interest in standing behind their work.

Bought an engine installed in my son's truck. at ~ **** miles oil leak developed from back of engine.Went to 3 repair shops none of them wanted to deal with S&J because of their negative past experience. Brought to 4th shop which found defective rear Main Cover leaking due to cracks. After a painful experience the shop was able to get some reimbursement for me. Few months later the engine started to overheat. Brought truck to same shop and they found the heads to be defective (cracks) The shop attempted to work with ******* got the "run around" calls not returned, etc. This shop used to purchase engines from S&J and had the same experience resulting in the shop NOT DOING BUSSINESS WITH S&J ANYMORE.S&J WILL give you the "run around" when trying to resolve any problems.S&J IS NOT TRUSTWORTHY - I WILL NEVER BUY ANYTHING FROM THEM OR RECOMMEND TO ANYONE.would rate 0 stars if had the option!

My experience with S&J has been through 2 very reputable auto repair shops in the ******** OR area. Gateway Auto Repair installed an S&J engine (2.9L V6 **** in a **** Ranger). Only got 11k miles of driving before #4 piston was holed. Gateway tried diligently to get S&J to remedy under warranty with no results. Basically saying that they had no control of any parts used or quality of workmanship at Gateway. Gateway offered to pull the motor and repair the #4 cylinders problem, which they did. After only a few thousand miles the engine started running very rough and I took it to K&M ************ to diagnose problems. Damage to all pistons with #4 again the worst. K&M's service manager ***** said he would contact S&J and work to see if he could get it repaired under warranty. Shortly got a call from K&M that S&J would exchange the engine and pay half of the labor charge, do I want to go forward with it? I said yes and K&M pulled the motor and sent it back. This is when communications stopped. For months. Finally S&J returned K&M's calls to say they were done rebuilding the motor. No warranty, no labor reimbursement, would have to pay full cost of remanufacturing the engine. S&J said they smelled bad gas and that was the cause so-no warranty. The same gas and station we use daily for our 10 company delivery vans with no problems. At this point, ***** said that at no time did he authorize S&J to do a re-man of the engine. It was supposed to be a diagnose only. I told K&M I felt like I had already bought that engine twice and I wasn't going to buy it a third time. I paid them for the labor pulling the engine & said I was ending the project. I now have no engine at all. I would not recommend S&J.
