I hired Washington Road Materials on July 31, 2024, to provide a chip seal driveway. The owner knocked on my door and told me that they had material left over from a nearby road job and looking to use the materials on hand. He offered to do the job for $8,000 and said that he guaranteed the work for 5 years. He noted that I would not have to worry about any weeds or grass in the driveway again for at least that long. He said that he would email the warranty details to me but never did. My wife and I followed him over to see the road job he was working on. The crew was polite and appeared to know what they were doing. The road work he took us to look at looked good and his crew was just loading up their equipment. I asked about being able to do ours in a few days and he told us that he would have to charge us more, as it would cost more to get the emulsion/tar they were using reheated. We agreed to have it done that day. When they came to our house they did a good job of scraping off our driveway and putting down the emulsion/tar. When done putting down the gravel he asked for us to give him a check made out to him, the owner, ******* *****, personally. We did this. However, when I went and checked our driveway the next day I found many spots not covered at all and that the stone used did not adhere to the tar emulsion in many places. The workmanship was very poor and I contacted him that day. He said that he would have someone stop by and take a look at what needed to be done. The weeds and grass started growing through it within a week. This means that the stone used had too much dirt/dust, or the emulsion used was not the correct substance, or there was not enough of it laid down as a base. After I discovered what "chip seal" should be I attempted to contact the owner and received no response. I tried to contact the owner again and found that I had been blocked from calling him, leaving a message, or sending him an email.Initial Complaint

Washington Road Materials took a personal check payment in full on the day of service. The rock they applied to our driveway was already wearing off the next day, with bare areas and slippage, making the drive unsafe. Weve tried to reach them with minimal success. Each time they answered they put us off. Now they wont answer our calls.Initial Complaint

I hired this business to provide a chip seal driveway. The owner knocked on my door and told me that they had a canceled job in the neighborhood and looking to use the materials on hand. He offered to do the job for $5,500 and said that he guaranteed the work for 5 years, it would take care of our weed problem in the driveway for 5 years. He said that he would email the warranty details to me and never did. The crew was polite, however they sprayed the emulsion/tar which splattered on the side of my house and on my garage door. The stone used did not adhere to the tar emulsion in many places and weeds started growing through it within 2 weeks. This means that the stone used had too much dirt/dust, or the emulsion used was not the correct substance, or there was not enough of it laid down as a base. The workmanship was very poor. I contacted the owner ************************* the same day that the job was done. He said that he would have his crew come back out and remove the overspray from my siding and garage door. The following day, he contacted me asking if he could refund me $200 and tell me which cleaner to buy, which I accepted. After I discovered what chip seal is supposed to be, I attempted multiple times to contact the owner, there was no response for several weeks. I gave formal notice that I would pursue legally with a list of my complaints if there was not commitment to remedy within 1 week, I received a response with a refusal to acknowledge the poor workmanship, or commit to a remedy. The owner also blocked me on social media to prevent my negative feedback on their ads and other media. We have been in contact with several dissatisfied customers of this company that live in the area who report the same experience.Initial Complaint

We hired ******************* of Washington Road Materials, LLC May, ***************************** **********, **. We paid with a cashiers check, and have a paid in full receipt that states there is a 2 year warranty on their work. There are multiple places on the road that have worn through to dirt, there is no tar material at all and have washboarded. We've had other contractors come up to see if they can do anything to help repair the work and they have recommended that we just scrape all the material off and start over. We have called, texted and left more than 10 voicemails and got 2 calls back where **** promised to come back and make it right, but now we receive no calls back/messages back and no work or return visit to our property has taken place.
