I was at Fred Meyer ******* location Sunday evening, July 24 and came across this section on aisle 13. The entire section is labeled "3 for $10", yet very few, if any, of the products match the mylars; and very few, if any, of the products ring at 3 for $10. All of the items ring at a higher price than 3 for $10. I spoke with both a store employee and a manager, both of whom told me that they are aware these items are placed on shelves with preexisting tags that don't reflect the cost of the items actually on the shelves. They also told me that they are not able to remove the inaccurate tags, remove the items that are on the shelves tagged for other (less expensive) items, or even create updated tags that show the correct item and its current price. So, even though the employees are aware that customers are going to place these items in their carts expecting them to ring at 3 for $10, there is not a single person in the store who has the ability or authority to ensure that items are correctly labeled and tagged on the store shelves. This is unethical, how many customers are going to examine the very small print on the tags to ensure that the tag matches the 10 or 12 boxes placed directly above it? Many customers are purchasing a large number of items and will most likely not notice that they were charged more for those items until they are home and examine their receipts. The bags of candy on the third shelf from the bottom ring at $9.99 and the 14 oz. box of Wheat Thins rings at $4.29. Not only are the employees aware of this; when I pointed it out to them, they were unwilling or unable to do anything to correct the situation. This is just wrong, customers should not have to examine every tag with a magnifying glass to ensure that they are getting the items represented on the shelves.Business response

Dear ***********************,
Your complaint to the Better Business Bureau was forwarded to us at Fred Meyer. Pricing integrity is a top priority at Fred Meyer. Unfortunately, supply chain issues have left us in a position where items are occasionally out of stock. We do have a practice in place for this situation, which entails using a specific blue tag, that is to be placed over the existing shelf tag. The blue tag states that the normal item for this shelf location is out of stock while preserving the original tag underneath so that our order clerks can still access it to continue placing orders. It sounds like this practice may have been missed at the respective location.
Our operations team has been notified and is following up with the store leadership team to ensure that the appropriate protocols are being followed. We apologize for any inconvenience. We appreciate you choosing to shop Fred Meyer, and we hope that you will continue to do so.
Sincerely,
Corporate Affairs, Fred Meyer Stores, Inc.
