We have had Healthy Paws Insurance since 2018 and they have been such a blessing in emergency and new things that have arose for our pup! I knew after our first dog had unexpected healthy issues that with this guy we were going to get insurance from when we rescued him and chose HP. He has had 2 major things happen, a TPLO knee surgery and chemotherapy injections on his journey of life so far and healthy paws covered the treatment and we would have never been able to do it without them. We will always be a customer with every pup we adopt. Thank you!Review from Matthew M

Total waste of money. Over 3 years, took over $3,500 and paid out nothing. Would have been better off using a shoe box for my insurance. Every money, stick casg in there and take it out when I need it.Healthy Paws Response

Were sorry you were not satisfied with your plan. We do our best to be transparent throughout our website, during the enrollment process and in the policy documents available to each client in their online Healthy Paws account regarding the limited exclusions of our policy. Those exclusions are pre-existing conditions, preventative/routine care and the office visit fee (vet exam, emergency exam, recheck or consultation). Anyone visiting our website can see this information on our Benefits, Coverage and Exclusions page. By making these limited exclusions part of the pet parent's financial responsibility, it allows us to offer a complete accident and illness plan. Since the majority of your invoice items fell into one of the above categories, we could not provide coverage. Were sorry to lose you as a policyholder and hope you and your pet stay well.Review from Moyo T

Healthy Paws Pet Insurance Services LLC CA Lic. #0H16053 ************ is a huge SCAM! Please avoid. First off, I got an expensive plan for an adopted fur baby but I didnt mind. Unfortunately we discovered several months down the line that he had significant health issues and once tried filing a claim but was not successful. However we continued on with the insurance payment; unfortunately my pup passed 06-09-2022 and amidst my tears I called as soon as we left the Vet to inform them. I was going through an account reconciliation last month for something else and discovered that HEALTHY PAWS continued to charged me till date. I reached out twice, they claimed to be looking into it. Again didnt ask for supporting documents from the Vet to proof that this baby really passed. They proceeded ti refunded payment for three months to my account and when I called to understand what the payment is for they claimed thats what they pay without supporting documents. I shared that no one asked for one, proceeded to forward the documents, again they said they would review. They did and their decision is that they will not pay because the document wasnt received before cancellation.Review from Diane G

No stars. This company was fantastic until this year. Now they do not communicate when I file a claim. I have to call and I get no help. On the last phone call, I was told that a $200 invoice was credited as $135 toward my deductible and that I get 80% of my invoice toward deductible. That doesnt even make sense. Somebody took over this company and it has tanked.Healthy Paws Response

Were sorry for any frustration during the processing of your claims. Please know the claims in question were covered and applied toward your pet's annual deductible. The deductible resets on your policy's anniversary date each year and must be satisfied before you are eligible for reimbursement. Reimbursements are based on your actual veterinary bills. We make every effort to inform our clients on how our reimbursement calculations work. We include this information (including examples) on our website within our "Frequent Asked Questions" page. Our process for calculating reimbursements has not changed and are approved by each state's Department of Insurance. Any reimbursement is based upon the deductible/reimbursement level a client chooses at enrollment.Review from Marcus R

I have been paying for Healthy Paws pet insurance for my dog for 8 years. Only had to use it once, but premiums kept going up. Recently needed to use it, and was denied. My dog had a cracked tooth and had to get it removed, but they thought it was a dental cleaning. Went through the appeal process which took over a month. I even worked with the animal hospital to provide the documentation that was requested by Healthy Paws. Did not hear anything back for that month until I called them to ask for an update. Was told that the appeal was closed because they did not get the dental chart, even though it was not originally requested and all the necessary information was in the provided doctors notes. There was no effort to contact me regarding the extra documents needed to process the appeal. They just closed the appeal without letting me know. I am certain, that if I did not call, I would have never been told the appeal was closed. THIS HAS BEEN A HUGE WASTE OF MONEY. For $80 a month, over 8 years, I would have been way better off just opening a savings account for my dog. I would not recommend Healthy Paws Pet Insurance to anyone.Healthy Paws Response

We're sorry your pet had that oral issue. As per your plan we do require full medical records for all enrolled pets in order to process claims. Once full records are received (typically we ask for them when you file your first few claims) we will keep them on file for future claims processing and you will never have to submit full records again. In the future, if we do need clarification for a specific claim, we may simply request the date of service exam notes for that visit. We appreciate your efforts in providing your pet's medical records, but we are missing some needed information. Our team has reached out on your behalf to your veterinarian multiple times for those records, but they have not been received. Once we have those records we can process your appeal.Review from Jay y

This company is a flim flam. Started from the dog with 10 months old premiums went up and up and up never made a claim dog turned 7 years old and they have it outrageously ridiculous increase you'd be way better off to stick this money aside and save his account. Nobody is going to pay for $500 a month for dog pet insurance. When you don't need them they're there when you do they aren't....Healthy Paws Response

We appreciate you being part of the Healthy Paws family over the years. We realize no one likes any form of premium increase. We understand your concern and would be happy to review your account and discuss your premium increase with you in greater detail. If you have not done so already, please call us at ************** and we will gladly answer any questions you have regarding the factors that go into your premium increases.Review from Carol H

I have been paying a monthly premium for pet insurance since May, 2018 and have never filed a claim because I never needed to. Last month was the first time I filed for a claim and since April have spoken to several representatives from the company. They state that I cancelled the insurance when the payments have been made every month automatically and that they need medical records from 2018 to 2020 when I changed vets. The previous vet states their medical records are in storage and are unavailable. Meanwhile the years of paying for Pet insurance is completely lost, these records were never requested until now, due to sending in a claim. This is extremely poor ethics.Healthy Paws Response

We're sorry for any frustration during the processing of your claim. All claim decisions are based off of your pets medical records and the signs/symptoms that are noted in those records. Most pet insurance companies including Healthy Paws use a pet's medical records to determine if there are any pre-existing conditions which would keep us from approving a claim. We appreciate all of your efforts in providing your pet's medical records. A lack of prior medical records can cause a delay in a claim being processed. Your claim has been processed with an Explanation of Benefits being sent to the email address in your account. Our customer care team has emailed you with more details regarding the cancelation of your policy and next steps for its reinstatement.Review from Maggie T

We had this insurance for three different dogs, over about 10 years. The rates have gone up astronomically, but that's true of the entire industry. Every company raises rates on old dogs b/c they hope that you'll drop the insurance once the dogs hit that point needing a lot of care. You won't have a "level premium" for the life of the dog. We kept paying it, even though it was expensive. One of my old dogs had multiple years requiring over $10,000 worth of care, and Healthy Paws paid well. That dog probably had $25k in claims over about three years--eye surgeries for rare melanoma of the eyeball and eventually lung cancer, which we held off for a good while with top-of-the-line care. We had Adequan shots, acupuncture, and vet-chiropractic covered for many years for one of the arthritic dogs. The only annoying thing about this company is how disorganized they are: they ask you to upload records, and then nobody ever looks at what you uploaded until you call and point out that it's sitting on their server. You have to be a "squeaky wheel" to get claims processed. Once I figured out that I needed to call EVERY time I uploaded requested records, the claims got paid very quickly -- often within 48 hours. The bottom line is that they pay as promised. All of my dogs were rescues, but I have a practice of paying for a vet exam "for insurance purposes" every time we start a new policy -- the vet is instructed to do a thorough exam, make detailed, accurate notes and assume that he's making those notes for an insurance company looking for pre-existing conditions. My vet does a good job of making that record at the start of the policy about all things that are "normal," and it's made the claims process very easy. Yes, it costs me about $100 (non-reimbursed vet exam) to do that for each dog, but it really does help with avoiding fights over non-existent pre-existing conditions that seem to plague some people. We've not had those problems with this company.Review from Diane S

I just signed up with Healthy Paws after being with ano***r provider with increasing premiums. I took my dog to *** vet because he ate something and had diarrhea. Because he had also been treated before a couple of times in 5 years for diarrhea, Healthy Paws did not pay. They said it was a pre-existing condition. His "Diarrhea" is a symptom of a virus or infection, not a chronic condition. OUTRAGEOUS! Calling **************** now and filing a claim for not receiving services rendered. Will include *** WHO's definition of diarrhea with my claim that states it is a symptom, not a condition unless o***rwise noted like Crohn's, IBS, Cancer etc.Healthy Paws Response

We're never happy when we have to deny a claim for a client. All claim decisions are based on your pets medical records and the signs/symptoms that are noted in those records by your veterinarian. Most pet insurance companies including Healthy Paws use a pet's medical records to determine if there are any pre-existing conditions that would keep us from approving a claim. While your Healthy Paws plan covers the costs of veterinary treatment related to an accident, illness or injury where the clinical signs or symptoms were first present after the enrollment date and waiting periods, pre-existing conditions are not covered by your plan. As such, we were unable to provide coverage for your recent claims as that condition was pre-existing based on the medical records provided by your veterinarian. Were sorry to lose you as a policyholder and hope you and your pet stay well.Review from Tammy F
