On Jan 6th I had my daughter's car towed to Brodhead ***** after the warning system on the car said "no oil pressure, pull over, shut off car."A couple weeks later, we received a call stating that they replaced the timing chain and oil pump, but the car was still not running. They could either charge us for another diagnostic charge and look into it further or get us a new engine at $7900. After having spent $3800 without a running car, I wasn't sure I wanted to pay for another diagnostic charge, especially since the first one did not completely diagnosis the problem. I didn't have a great option after spending $3800 and still no running car. I decided to rent a uhaul and pick up the car and drove it 2 hours south. I found a man on a Volt forum that would give us $1200 for it, which was double what a junk dealer was to give us. The man who bought the car, called the next day to let me know that he had it running in 1 hour. It needed a new valve cover. He felt bad calling, but thought I should know. He is very happy with the car and I do appreciate him calling. I have information on him, if you would like it.I have attached the invoice and correspondence between myself and the owner of the dealership. We tried the service manager first and were given a $335.37 discount, which I do not feel is adequate.Thank you for your time,********************* ************Business response

************** had his car towed in on 1-6-24. It was not drivable due to the fact that the oil pump was broken into several pieces. That is why the engine had no oil pressure. After we finished the repairs and were able to test drive the car and the check engine light came on and the engine ran rough. The technician scanned for codes and found misfire codes. He then pulled the spark plugs out and found that the #2 plug was oil fouled. The technician cleaned the plugs and reinstalled them. The engine ran fine until the plug fouled again. This problem was not related to the primary concern. We would not have been able to know that there was another issue until we were able to test drive the car. ************** was then offered the opportunity to have us diagnose the second concern. He was not told that the car needed an engine replacement. That was offered as a worst case scenario depending on what we found with further diagnosis. He chose to not have us diagnose the second concern and paid us for the repairs that were previously authorized by him to fix the reason it was towed in.Customer response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
This is unbelievable. The problem related to the primary concern was that the oil pump spewed oil. The cover should have been checked. We were never quoted a price for another diagnosis or other work, just a quote for a new engine.I do not feel the buyer of the "non-running" car was taking advantage of us. Just the opposite. I had two other quotes. One for $600, the other for $800. After I sold the car, the buyer called, he felt bad and asked if I wanted more information after he resolved the issue. Of course, I wanted to know what happened, he gave us the news. He wanted me to be aware, in his opinion the dealership mishandled the oil in the cylinders issue. He never gloated, he was just being honest with us. The dealership had to know that the oil in the cylinders was not a problem, because the car was in the day before for a new 12 volt battery and was running fine. I feel completely misled. If anything, I completely trust the buyer of the Volt, unlike the Brodhead dealership.
Regards,

Several months ago I bought a used car from Brodhead Chevrolet. At some point in the transaction the "finance manage" spoke to me and said I was getting a "powertrain warranty" and I believe at first he said it was included but later said it would cost $900. He also said there was a $175 charge for new license plates, and when I told him I'd kept the plates from my old car he said he'd they'd pay buy check for the amount. It wasn't until now that I've realized even if they did refund me the proper amount, which they didn't, I'd still be paying interest on it through my financing. About three weeks ago I got a check in the mail for $116 with no explanation where that amount came from. I had gone back to the dealer three or four times to try and get my money back on both these amounts. I didn't feel a powertrain warranty was worth paying for. The finance guy told me all I had to do if I wanted to cancel it was call the company, which I had, and they told me only the dealer could cancel it. When I went back to try and get it canceled, a different finance guy said it was included for free. But of course when I looked at my sales paperwork there was a $900 charge listed as "Other." Each time I went back to get this done I was stonewalled and got nowhere. Finally I've had the time to sit down and file a complaint with the BBB.Business response

We reached out to the customer and it seems there was miscommunication about the products purchased. We cancelled the product and processed the refund.
