My story is nearly the exact circumstance as this one. My husband and I purchased Cremation, urns and a niche from WMP in 1981. I also have all the documentation. My husband died on June 7th and that is when I was told they would not be able to honor the contract for cremation. I have had to pay another funeral home for my husbands cremation and now wonder if my children will be faced with the same upset when I die. I was told by the salesman who came to our house that the money would be invested and held to cover future cremations. At best this is illicit sales practices. I have also found evidence of the parent company Service Corp. Intl being flagged by the BBB for this practice in California. I have also been told that the niche opening would cost $1,320.00, which was never part of the original contract. Copied from prior review--** Buyer Beware!!!!! My parents purchased prepaid funerals through Wisconsin Memorial Park in the late 1970's. They had documentation that what they paid for included two cremations, a crypt, two urns and a fee to open and close the crypt twice. My Dad passed away in early June. We contacted Wisconsin Memorial Park to arrange his cremation only to be told that they don't actually do cremations except under very limited circumstances - you need to use one of 5 funeral homes which was never communicated to my parents. Thus my Mom ended up paying today's rates for my Dad's cremation at the funeral home we were using. It took 3 months to get the refund of the money they paid. Then they also told us that my parents had only paid for one open/close of the crypt. We had to send all the records and push to get them to go back to fee schedules from the 1970's. Eventually they agreed that our records were correct. Selling cremations when that isn't a part of their regular business is unethical and traumatic when you are dealing with the death of a loved one. Personally I would think twice about a prepaid funeral with this organization.--
