Will installed a driveway in fall of 2020. In spring of 2021 a crack began to form in middle of driveway. **** said to keep on eye on it. He came out in May of 2021 and said he would repair it. He tried putting caulk in it first time. Crack then continues to expand to 2 more panels in driveway. Multiple emails and texts were exchanged and we agreed first repair wasnt going to work. I have included email where he promises to come out again and repair. Finally in July of 2023 someone (maybe Will) came out smeared more caulk on crack. It looks terrible. I have reached out to him multiple times with pictures of the poor repair. He has stopped responding. I have multiple texts and emails over the last 2 years with **** promising to fix defect in driveway. I have been more than patient. I am including one of emails where he admits caulk looks bad and a different repair needs to be done. I also included a picture of this repair on my new driveway. Clearly there is some defect in his original installation of driveway that is causing this crack to form down 3 middle panels of driveway. He needs to make this right and replace those panels.Business response

Our goal is to serve our plethora of customers with great service. Unfortunately sometimes the concrete cracks. The driveway is 3 years old. A crack did appear just outside of the control joint. There was not a warranty expressed or given. Out of courtesy we did come out and fill the small crack w concrete repair sealant.
The customer contacted again and stated he would like it done again. To my hesitation we went and did fill the crack again. For this very reason. We will not be replacing any concrete. As I stated above, unfortunately concrete does crack. We did everything to try to prevent this. A strong compacted stone base - A straight six bag fiber mesh concrete mix - 7/16 rebar reinforcements - We tooled in control joints in small sections approx 6x6 in the driveway to prevent. My own driveway has a crack in it. This is out of our control. We do everything to prevent, but sometimes a natural material like concrete cracks.

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.
Will mentioned driveway is almost 3 years old. True. Thats how long he has dragged this process out. The crack formed months after driveway was installed. He finally came out a year later and put in the caulk he talks about. I have, in writing, where he agrees that the fix stood out and he would come out in spring and remove and replace. The crack continued to spread further. He finally showed up last month when we were not home and smeared black caulk over crack. Now you can see the fault from outer space. We replaced this driveway 3 years ago because of cracking and chipping. Now we have a new driveway with a bigger crack than we had before. I should have held Will accountable as soon as crack formed but he kept telling me how busy he was and he would take care of it. He dragged this out and now claims its too late. Unbelievable. I I tried to be super patient and nice about it. This is what I get. There is a fault in driveway. No other reason it would form a crack down center thats 13 feet long. I have all of ***** promises to fix in writing via text and email. I included the promise in first part of complaint along with picture it 13 ft crack. I can send more of correspondence if needed. I also tried to reach out before I filed complaint to see if we could come to some sort of agreement on making this right. He refused to reply.

We signed a contract on 3/26/2019 to have our driveway, walkway and stairs re-done with Will. He completed the work in June 2019. After Spring, the driveway began breaking apart and had pits. I emailed Will in 5/25/2020 about the problem. He responded saying he will look into it. 6/5/2020 I emailed again, he responded asking if we used salt and how long we waited to drive on it. We never used salt on the driveway and we wait 7 days to drive on it as instructed by ****. I never heard back, I emailed again on 7/22/2020 to follow up on when he would come out to look at the driveway and to get the problems fixed. I never got a response. Then months later our stairs began falling apart. Numerous emails back and forth another year later he finally came out to fix the problem on 10/15/2021. He refused to fix all the problem areas and stated he will only fix the worst spots. After his fix, the driveway began to break apart and looks worse than before. I emailed him on 7/28/2022, received no response. I am currently working with another concrete company to assess the problem and test the concrete. I would like **** to reimburse us the cost of fixing the driveway.Business response

The job was done over 3 years agoA total of 75 yards of concrete was pouredRear driveway to second garageSide parking areaGarage floor front walkway and front stoop and stepsFront driveway and culvert installation and ****************** approach area.Of course no one ever places salt on concrete ever, as owner states they didnt. We did come out as a courtesy to repair an area . That we stated we believe it was salt damage. We repaired the areas that were in concern. We did not state that we would only repair the worst spotsThat is a fabrication of truth. There are no cracks in the 75 yards of concrete - as owner states the driveway began to break apartWe will not reimburse.Customer response

**** began the work on 6/3/2019 and it took about a week to complete. I emailed him on 5/25/2020 about the driveway problems as the concrete began to crumble and we had pits all over. He responded he would come out to take a look and then would never followed through. After countless emails I finally got him to come out on 10/15/2021 to fix the problem areas. He stated he wouldnt't fix all the pits but fix the worst section as he only brought 10 bags of concrete with him and wouldn't have enough. He repaired 4 large sections and a small corner section of our driveway and then repaired the stairs that were crumbling apart.
When sitting down with Will initially I asked him if anything went wrong with our concrete how would he handle that. He responded that he backs his work and he would fix any problem we would have. Unfortunately, I do not have any warranty in writing that states that, however, if this is the quality of work he backs up then he shouldn't have a business. This is awful that as a customer who also gave him two other referrals (he completed our parents and friend's driveway) that he would leave us with a driveway that looks like this. Especially with spending about $20,000 with him for all the work he did at our property. He completed our staircase, walkway, garage pour, main driveway and extended the driveway to a back garage behind the house. The main problem areas were the staircase and the front part of the driveway.
I attached the original contract, there was an updated contract with additional work changes and my last name correction. My maiden name was ******* and married name is *******. I requested to have the updated contract but never received it. I attached the city requirements for the driveway and culvert he sent us. I also sent a timeline that I created of all the contact I had with him. I do have all the emails between us if you need that as well.
**** responded that he believes we used salt and that is the reason the driveway has pits which is false. The only area we used salt on was our walkway and steps into the house which I told him that. It was due to the concrete mix. The most common causes for surface voids are entrapped air, the improper use of release agents or excess water within the concrete mix. **** stated that the concrete company gave him the wrong concrete for our stairs. I would like to see what type of concrete was ordered for our job then because if we received the wrong concrete for the stairs then it may be possible we got the wrong concrete for the driveway too.
