The business replaced our deck in 2018 at a cost of $3,660. Six months ago we began a conversation about the substandard nature of the wood deck material provided. The contractor acquired this material from Menards in ******* Creek. The wood has shrunk, warped, cupped, checked and splintered excessively. The contractor states that Menards has agreed to replace the wood with an upgrade to cedar deck boards. The contractor said he will stand behind the project and complete the necessary tear off and installation at no cost to us. Our problem is the contractor has stopped communicating with us. Our text messages now go unanswered for weeks and months at a time. We are concerned that he no longer plans to do what he said he would do.

We do not have a warranty.  The contractor has assured us that he will replace the deck at no cost to us.

Has the contractor responded to you?

Please let me know you received this correspondence.

      Thank you,

I sent pictures and a very brief description to the contractor Friday evening and Saturday morning.  He read them, but did not respond.

Good morning, I have stated to the customer I want to help him with this material issue but I have to handle it through the vendors process. He does not want the same product we installed and I told him I would try to get the vendor to supply us a different material. That doesn't guaranty that they will do a even trade since the only acceptable material he will accept is cedar decking now and its considerably more expensive. The store reps have told me its possible but the corporate decision is still pending. They asked for pictures I sent them a few weeks ago and am in a waiting period. I understand the frustration on the customers end however I am at the mercy of the situation. The material is double the cost it was almost 4 years ago when we did his deck board replacement. Also worth noting that it was a redeck project meaning the deck framing underneath was not replaced but just the top layer of deck boards and step. So while I can deal with the top layer of decking in this situation I cant be responsible for the framing underneath the deck boards anymore today than 4 years ago. This situation didn't carry a warranty in any sort by me only a manufactures limited warrantee when we did the project and I am only trying to do what is best for the customer an help him out. In order to do that I have to follow the instructions that the manufacturer asks me to follow. I have already been told at best I will only get material reimbursed and most likely it will get prorated and I will get zero towards my labor.

To put this situation behind us, we will accept treated deck boards as the replacement.  We ask that the contractor provide us with a timeline to accomplish this.
