We hired a plumber/rooter after a massive basement flood in early April 2024. The company left us with two large fans and a dehumidifier without any mention of rental charges or an end-date. We were told that we could use the dehumidifer/fans as needed and they would be picked up "Sometime this week or next week." In fact, the dehumidifier worked so poorly, we ended up borrowing one from a friend that worked significantly better. We stopped using the equipment within 3 days of having them, unaware that we were accumulating fees of over $100/day. Along with this, our clogged sewer drain was not resolved with the visit. The plumber removed the top from the drain, stating that to be the issue, and left. The drain was clogged and this did not resolve the issue. When the plumber returned the following week, he presented us with a nearly $1700 bill for services. I sent the company an email stating that we were not made aware of any charges, no contract was signed, and our problem was not fixed. I stated that we would be willing to work out a cost adjustment. The company refused to take accountability and no attempt was made to adjust the charge. We have not paid the bill yet.Business response

When I arrived to assess the situation, I was told that there was an insurance claim atarted. So, I did what we normally do, i set the equipment up to dry the affeted areas. There were a total of four fans, and a commercial dehu. I was in contact with the male party, and he was also waiting for a response from the insurance company, so I also continued to wait. After a week, I made arrangements to pick up the equipment and left an invoice to be sumbitted to the insurance company.
As far as the plugged floor drain, there was a backflow ball in the drain, and it was not working properly. After I removed it, the water that was presend, drained. When I came back to pick up the equipment, the male party stated that the drain was still slow, and when I looked, I saw heavy traces of paint chips, likely from the water draining and pulling the loose paint chips into the drain. I was never asked to do anything with it.
The male party seemed fine with the invoice when I handed it to him. I have a signed copy as well.
After several e-mails, the customer said she would pay $500 for the services, and I agreed that would be fine. I have yet to receive any type of payment, for any services or "rental" as it was called in the complaint.
Being that I was told there was an insurance claim, I did things based on that. Most times, we set the equipment up, and wait to speak with the insurance company prior to doing additional work such as flood cuts, moisture readings and such.
I agreed that $500 was sufficient seeing as it was self pay, and the insurance company never reached out.
Please let me know how to proceed. Thank you.
