A man came to my door on August 26th, 2023, gave me his business card, and said that he was in town doing work on a parking lot in the mall and had extra materials and asked if I would like my driveway seal-coated. I asked how much and knew that his quote of $350 is about what I paid last time so I figured if I could get it done right away, I'd have him do it. I asked if he could accept a personal check, but he preferred cash if I could get it. I said I would like a receipt and he said I could text his father, which I did that day. I went to two different ATMs to get the correct amount of money. The work was completed, but I never received a receipt. After the worker left, I noticed that he had left footprints on my brickwork from having walked in the wet seal coating. When I took a picture and sent it to the father (who still had not sent me a receipt) to ask how to get this off, he said that he would be able to remove the footprints himself at the end of the month, "not this month, but next month" so presumably September. He never responded again when I asked him again in September and in October. I contacted the contractor who installed the brickwork (the sidewalk and stoop were $10K) how to remove the footprints and how much it would cost. He said that it would cost $450 to replace the bricks because they could not be sandblasted off, due to the bricks being laid in a sand grout, which would destroy it. I have since emailed in addition to texting requesting a refund of the $350 plus $100 to cover the cost of the damage that was done to my sidewalk so I can have the work done to repair it. Still no reply. I would like this company to make good with my request which is long overdue. Not to mention they probably are violating tax laws, too.
