On Friday, February 24th around 9:30am, I went into Lanes *********************************************** to purchase a ***************** I had received a $10.00 gift card from my employee back in April, 2022 and I was going to use that gift card to help purchase my items. A very nice young server helped me out, but when I went to hand her my gift card, I was told, Oh you wont be able to use the gift card? When I questioned why I wouldnt be able to, she mentioned, and I dont have the exact words that she mentioned, so I will not quote her, but something along the lines of they switched banks awhile back, and theyre unable to get gift cards to work. Says this has been going on for the past few months. I told her well thats unfortunate. Then I started to think about it, and told her, that ** really not out any money for the gift card, but I knew my employer who had purchased a few of these gift cards and handed them out at work. She would be out the money and anyone else that has purchased gift cards in the past year, and now unable to use them. I did pay for my items with cash and left. I did call my employer and told her that the gift cards she purchased at Lanes, we are unable to use them due to a bank error or problem. She said, well thats not right and probably isnt legal. I told her I would look into it. I did call Lanes back later that day, and asked to speak with a supervisor. A lady I was speaking with said, there isnt one available, but is there anything I can do to help? I had explained about being in there that morning and unable to use a gift card. She mentioned like the counter person did earlier, that its a problem with their bank. I told her the problem is, everyone has given Lanes money for gift cards, and either Lanes has the money or your bank does, but now you are currently not granting them. She said one of the problems is, we dont knew what is the amount on the gift card. I said you may just have to take people for their word and just start granting them.Business response

The credit card machine that accepted the gift cards was broken. There are no new machines that will take the card. We have been working between our Bank and ValuTech since October when tis situation occurred. We are trying to get a list of outstanding gift cards along with their value and they have not been cooperative. It appears that we are at the point of pursuing legal action as we want our customers to be able to use their cards. At this point, our hands are tied.Customer response

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me.
At some point though, Lanes may just have to accept the gift cards and rely on their customers for being honest with them. Besides, theyve received the money front the people who purchased them.
