Bob ******* just finished building a 2.5 car garage for me near ****** ****. Bob is a true craftsman who provides a quality product. He hires excellent subs: Demolition of my decrepit 1-car 1929 garage was precise and complete. As was the pad prep afterwards. **** ***** ******** did an especially good job on prep and pour of the concrete pad and later the driveway apron. Construction of the building, then roofing and siding happened quickly and to high quality specifications. The gutters went up in 20 minutes! All his subs were knowledgeable, fast, efficient and they cleaned up after work was done! Bob was good at letting me know what to expect when. His excellent relationship with his supplier facilitated getting a couple of small issues (window arrived cracked; not quite enough siding) resolved quickly. Previous bad review happened because an employee that Bob was mentoring botched a contract. That employee is gone. Bob values his reputation and can show prospective customers hundreds of examples of his good work. I inspected five nearby projects before signing a contract with him.

My dream garage project quickly turned into a nightmare. The project started a week late. The construction crew started as 3 guys, after the first week it became 1. The 1 guy would work on my garage for 1/2 to a full day and then he would show for a week. When he finally installed the roof it was short a bundle. It took 2 weeks to get the last bundle of shingles, in the meantime it rained 4 days into my new garage. Even though I signed the contract 4 months before the start date, once the construction was complete I was told it would be a 3 months wait for garage doors. I told the owner, who I had to babysit through the whole project, that it was unacceptable and past the end of the contract. He then yelled at me on the phone the next 3 times I talked to him. He wanted me to pay $800 more to get different doors. When I refused he yelled at me again. When I told him he wouldn't get the final check until the doors were in, he reluctantly paid it himself only to install different doors than contracted without my permission. (No change order) The doors are 9' and my ceiling is 12'. Even though I was promised high-lift doors the tracks were installed 3' below the ceiling. This is a huge problem because I have 12' ceilings in order install lifts, so I'm currently only able to use half if my garage, and now the owner of Gilbert Garages refuses to fix it. I had to a babysit the project so much to assure it would get finished I should have been a paid Project Manager. The owner has no clue what he's doing. The only thing he knows how to do is hold his hand out for checks and once he gets the final check he will refuse to finish any remaining work. This is really bad since his contract requires the last check at "substantial completion". For me he was asking for it before the overhead doors were installed. Had I paid him I'm confident he would have never installed them.
