Per the terms of the lease my late father signed with Attic Angel Prairie Point on May 3, 2017, Attic Angel is required to return 90% of the $305,000 he paid for the lease once a new lessor for his home has been found. The lease contains an allowance for additional funds to be held back from that reimbursement in cases of "excessive damage" to the unit; however, despite receiving written confirmation from an Attic Angel staff member that no such damage existed at the time we vacated Dad's unit, Attic Angel still held back $4,917 from our refund. They claim the carpet "needed to be completely replaced" for over $3,000, and they spent additional money patching up drywall where they chose to remove safety grab bars that are recommended for any housing where elderly people reside. We have photographic evidence and eyewitness accounts from multiple caregivers who were in the home regularly during Dad's illness, all of which support our position that Attic Angel has unfairly, unethically and illegally seized Dad's money to fund discretionary upgrades to the home. This is unacceptable, and we have informed Attic Angel's COO that we will pursue legal action and share our negative experience as widely as possible until the misappropriated money is returned to us.
