My husband, *******, and I hired NextGen/******* to fix a wall/header we removed from our home (*************** prompted us that this might be a load bearing wall). We were provided a quote (Aug 23, 2022) that itemized the work NextGen was to do, including a site survey ($1,500), structural repair ($5,500), structural engineering fees ($2,750), and a hidden header ($1,000) which we opted to take. ******* was also quoted at $2,500 but we opted not to have them do the drywall. The site survey was complete (Aug 26, 2022), and repair promptly made (Aug 30, 2022). We paid ******* in full. In discussing with ******* the work completed and next step with the inspector ******* informed us that it was not a load bearing wall and the inspection would be competed within three days of him informing the city the work was complete. He assured us that he would be informing the city by the end of the week (Sept 2, 2022). We had not heard from ******* until ******* contacted him to follow-up (Sept 14, 2022). When we were ready to close up the wall ******* had said that he never told us the inspection would be complete and he had plans to submit to the city. ******* asked him for a copy of the permit he pulled with the city and a copy of the structural engineer's report so that would have a copy of that if we needed it in the future. Come to find out that a permit had not been pulled at the time my husband asked for this; it was pulled Sept 19, 2022. We have never been provided an engineer's report. We do not believe that report had ever been done or that an engineer was hired for our job. We would like a refund of the structural engineering fees of $2,750.
