On 4/26/23 SWAT was contracted to install a Radon Mitigation System and encapsulate a 144 square foot crawl space. The technician who responded placed a plastic seal over the opening and informed us this was encapsulated, which we later found out was not. In June of 2023 we reached out to the offices asking why the proper encapsulation was not complete and were informed the money was reallocated to sealing the entryway with plastic and no refund would be issued. She also advised, via email, to encapsulate the crawlspace would be an additional $344. In June of 2024 we reached out to another company to properly encapsulate it and were quoted $500. He reached out to **** on our behalf and informed them to finish the job. They agreed and scheduled to complete the crawlspace on 7/29. On 7/29 they canceled 15 minutes prior to the appointment advising they would comeback on 8/21. On 7/31 they rescheduled to 9/19 then changed it again to 9/5. On 9/5 after the appointment time, we received a call and they changed it to 9/6 at which point he showed up. On 9/6 the technician advised the crawlspace was able to be encapsulated, however he would not fit in the area and he would refund us $144 plus another $106 for the trouble. This is approximately half of the cost to go with another company, and less than the $344 even they said it would cost. The regional director said that the original technician noted it was inaccessible, but this was never communicated to us in the over a year long process, and was deemed accessible by the other company. SWAT has lied to us multiple times and still not completed the job leaving us with a higher cost to contract elsewhere after having our money for well over 1 year. The emails have been saved for further record.Business response

As we have explained we are unable to seal the crawl space. The radon levels went from 9.6 down to 0.5. We have cut a check back to you for $250 which is more than what was owed back.Initial Complaint

We bought our home contingent on a radon mitigation system being put in and radon levels dropping below the recommended levels for living. We moved in and waited two weeks (almost month after installed) and our inspector came out and levels were still very high we then used the test SWAT provided a week later and it was still very high. After multiple phone calls with SWAT they are saying they told our previous owners a second system would be needed (we have a very normal sized home) but yet that was not written in a contract anywhere and only in their notes on their system that they can see no legal written signed document with this information. They will not even come look and assess our situation and why this very expensive system is not working without a service fee of $250( lolll wow great customer service) and everyone I talk to is extremely rude and not helpful in the slightest. I had a local guy come out and he gave his opinion on it and what should have been done (no fee). Now our fan has gone out and we cant get anyone on the phone. We are a young family , I am pregnant, and have a toddler, and we are living in a home with extremely high levels of radon that was not agreed upon when we bought this house. This is the worts customer service on an issue that can very well cause long term health problems for us all. How sad of a world we live in that this cannot be rectified.Business response

We have explained to you that at the time we put the system in we made the homeowner aware that a 2nd system would be needed to fully mitigate the radon down to a safe level due to the home design. The current system did reduce the radon levels but in order to reduce further a 2nd system is needed. If you are having issues with the current system then please reach out and we can have someone come out as the current system would be covered under warranty.Customer response

which is nowhere notated in any signed documents from the previous owner and your company. The only thing you have to state that is your here say. There are no legal signed documents stating that. I have also called multiple times today and left two voicemail messages Id be happy to supply those records. No one has called me back. We will be seeking legal action if nothing is done to rectify. Either come fix, lower the levels, or you can come refund this whole system. Your complaints on here speak enough about your company. You are doing dirty business.

not a single phone call or message was left. I reached out after my realtor reached out and finally was answered. Solution is still not solved without a credit card on file for possible $250. All you guys want is money and no action on your part. You can stop responding here now because nothing you have done has fixed any issues.

i have contacted SWAT environmental numerous times without any call backs or help. I was told one radon system would remove the radon from my home. i went forward and purchased an entire system. it cut my radon down but was still at dangerous levels. i purchased a second radon system as i was told the second system would eliminate the radon gas from my home. the second system cut it down but my levels are still at dangerous levels. after several calls and emails, i have received no refund, no compensation, and no response. i was told they could come and rectify the problem, but they took my money and ran instead.Business response

As we have discussed with you the primary issues are the cobblestone walls and sump pit. We wanted to seal the sump pit but you did not allow us. We will have someone from our service team reach out to see if you would like to move forward with that option now.Customer response

I did not reject any offers from SWAT and have been trying to get SWAT to contact me and rectify this. If that is an option, I was not presented with it and no one has made any effort to rectify anything. I do not wish to continue waiting for a response and would like a refund or a definite date of service to lower the radon levelsRegards,

I had a mitigation system installed on 6/7. I retested and the levels came back 4.9, so still above the recommendation. I reached out to **** and they scheduled me for another service to fix it or possibly install another system. My original appointment was on 7/18. They never showed up. I called and was rescheduled again for 7/22. They never showed up. I called once more and was told someone would reach out to me to help figure out what was happening. No one called me back. I finally call one last time and ** told that I never had an appointment set for 7/22, despite receiving a text confirmation and confirming it online. As of now I am rescheduled for 7/24 but Im doubtful they will show up. This has been incredibly frustrating especially as a new homeowner. Im trying to move my family in but this has been causing delay after delay, and forgive me if Im not comfortable moving into a home with known cancer causing gas while my mother is still recovering from breast cancer. At this point I feel like its not unreasonable to ask for a discount as Ive been waiting for service for almost a week now and my appointments keep getting canceled through no fault of mine.Business response

On March 5, 2024 I had SWAT Environmental install a radon mitigation system in my home in ******, **. After getting the system connected to electricity we let it run for a week and did the follow up test. My Radon level was still above the *** level of 4.0. I just ran a second test from 5/28 to 6/4/24 and the level was reported at 11, higher than before the **** system was installed.I've tried repeatedly calling **** and leaving voice mails asking for a call back with no response. I even had the Realtor who recommended them to me attempt to call them, with no response. My job # is 978385.I would like additional work done to resolve the Radon issue or a full refund.Business response

My Radon level was 3.1 and I wanted to drop it below 2 and reached out to swat and they said their system would drop it to below 1 ! Paid them $1300 and their system was installed and the technician even gave me a test kit to check level saying they would fix the system if it doesnt drop the level. When I rechecked it it was 2.9 (margin of plus minus 1 ) so essentially the same level. Reached out to them and they said they didnt guarantee anything and my level was below 4 so nothing was needed to start with! Said I would have to pay for a new system drilled in a different place if I was interested in further reduction!Business response

Sorry about your experience. We guarantee to reduce levels below the Environmental ***************** recommendation of 4.0. Radon levels can vary for a variety reasons, some of which include weather, ventilation, and where testing was conducted. This doesn't mean the system isn't working to prevent radon. We offer additional steps that can be taken to reduce radon levels. Please reach out if you would still like to consider any of those options.Customer response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.
The business agreed to install a system knowing that the level was below 4 to start with. When you call them they encourage you to install their system for level >2 . They list EPA number and WHO number of >2.7 as high radon level on multiple articles on their site. Their warranty lists that too and no where it says we only work and install if rado level >4 . Their warranty guarantees reduction of radon as low as reasonably possible. Since their system failed to drop radon in my house it is reasonable to agree it is a failed system. Again the system fails to drop radon level by even a single 1/10 of a point! Company is trying to get out of its responsibility like any other irresponsible and unprofessional company with no regards to its customers!

We installed a radon mitigation system for you which is what you paid for. We don't guarantee a specific level of decrease from our systems but rather only that we will get it below the *** recommended level of 4.0. Your home is below the *** recommended level of 4.0. As we have stated before, there are additional things we can do to try and get it even lower but those would come with a cost.Customer response

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint. For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.Seems this unprofessional business has problem with simple understanding! As stated in the previous reply the Radon level was below 4 to start with, the company agreed to install a system after I talked to them and they recommended it apparently just to charge money. The system failed to bring the Radon down even a tiny bit from previous pre installation level so it is a complete failure and a ripoff job!
the best part for the reader here is they still reply saying we can add more stuff or drill more to bring down the level but it will come with an extra charge but we dont guarantee anything and we already failed you with the first system and you should trust us with new installation and pay us more money! This shows how very careless, dishonest and unprofessional this business is by treating their customers in this ridiculous way!

We had someone come out to assess the work needed on our new house we just bought and he made a very big mistake and did a sloppy job so our quote ended up being much lower than what the actual cost was. Then, a technician came out and did some of the work but wasn't able to complete the full job. We scheduled a follow up visit and the technician was a no-show. We scheduled another follow up visit and the technician never showed again. At this point we gave up. We are now going to have to hire a new company to re-do the work that was already done and will cost us thousands of dollars. We paid SWAT Environmental about $1400 to do half the job that we're now going to have to re-do. It was a terrible experience all around.Business response

Sorry about the experience ****. I think there is a misunderstanding on what was and wasn't done. We came out to the home and sealed your crawl space which is what you paid for. You were going to retest before adding a mitigation system as some excavation work would be needed in order for us to install a system. We were waiting to hear from you until after the excavation work was completed.Initial Complaint

SWAT Environmental installed a radon mitigation system at our house in January 2022. It stopped running in Spring 2023. We called them out to take a look for repairs, and the individual who came out from SWAT told us that it couldn't be repaired as it was because it had been installed improperly by someone who no longer worked at the company because that individual had apparently done improper work for other customers as well. In the process of looking at it, he disconnected/took it apart on the exterior. We were told that SWAT would make it right, but no one ever contacted us to come out and fix it. We gave them plenty of time to do this. In the Fall 2023, we contacted SWAT again. Another individual came out and confirmed that the system had been installed improperly and SWAT would make it right. Again, no one ever contacted us and SWAT stopped responding to our calls. We would appreciate it if SWAT would either come out and repair the existing system to code and proper function either for free or for a discounted price or at least provide a partial refund since the system was not properly installed in the first place.Business response

I put an offer on a house and the inspection done on 11/23/22 showed radon level of 13.1. I hired SWAT Environmental Radon Mitigation Specialists to do an on-site consult on 12/19/22. During this consult, it was determined by the technician that a brand new system would have to be installed. ( The house came with a running radon mitigation system, but it was apparently not doing it's job as the level during home inspection was 13.1). I mentioned that I was not certain I wanted to do that. He then said " then you owe me $250 for the call". I felt threatened and gave permission to install a new system that was finally installed in January 2023. The post installation reading on 2/21/23 was 11.7. I advised SWAT on 3/7/23 that the new mitigation system did not work. The level was still too high. SWAT sent a different tech out on 3/8/23 who decided a "second tap" was necessary. He smelled like beer and his eyes were bloodshot and again I felt threatened. He installed another pump and now my basement looks like h*** with two pumps running outside my house making an awful noise for my neighbors who are only a driveway away. The reading after the second tap was installed was 13.4, worse than before they installed it. I called several times to discuss this issue, but they would not call me back. I would like a full refund of The money I gave to SWAT. The final reading was worse that the initial reading during inspection. They do not know what they are doing, sending intimidation workers to install pumps that are not necessary. They then disappear and will not return calls.Business response

[Swat was made aware of their failure to mitigate radon to an acceptable level despite adding a second pump and then an additional tap. I asked them to call me re: this failure and they ignored my requests, therefore I have no reason to believe they can fix this situation. Anything short of a full refund is an unacceptable resolution. Without the refund my family and I remain exposed to high levels of radon daily. SWAT has taken almost 1500$ and the radon level is higher than when I moved in.

I had to fix a defective seal that was spilling water. I called the company but no one responded until 4 days later. I had to call a ******* to fix the seal to stop the water from leaking, who charged me $265. I faxed a copy of the paid invoice for the ******* services to S.W.A.T Environmental and requested reimbursement. I called several times to ask if they would resolve this, and they do not return my calls nor answer by inquiry. This latest incident was the result of this company installing a radon mitigation system that was sucking up water instead of mitigation the gas below the surface of my home. The system was installed at the technician's choosing, and the company will not resolve the lack of radon mitigation for which I paid.Business response
