I asked for my account to be placed on hold in June 2023. At that time, the manager explained that it would be put on hold, but that whenever I activated the account, I would still have 6 months remaining to pay on the account. Unfortunately, I didn't discover until February 2025 that they reactivated the account 3 months later without any kind of communication/notification. I was being charged $60/month since September 2023. I never used it during that time as I did not know I had an active membership. I called in February 2025 to reactivate the account, which is when I discovered they had been charging me all this time. There was no attempt to work with me on this to develop any resolution. In turn, they wanted to charge me 2 additional months which I have yet to pay.Business Response

I just talked with *****. I am going to credit her the 19 months she paid for and clear the past due, she was very happy with that resolution.
We did nothing wrong, her situation is very clearly laid out in her agreement, but I wanted to make sure we did our best with customer service as well.
Let me know if you have any questions or need anything more from me. Thanks!Customer Answer

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is satisfactory to me. I appreciate the district manager stepping in to right the situation after the prompting by the BBB as she was not made aware of the situation by the local manager. However, I do want to note that although the original agreement was correct, the manager at that time I requested the pause shared verbally that my contract would not renew until I renewed it. I discussed with the district manager that it would be better business practice to alert the patron when they are starting up an auto pay. Many calls, emails and text messages go out if they need to collect money. The same energy should be put into notifying (at least one email) when you are going to start charging a patron's credit card.

I have tried to cancel my membership for years. I have gone to the location and phoned many many times. My FOB does not work to gain entrance and no one returns my calls. I have now blocked the payment through my bank (at my expense) and now I am getting harassing emails and phone calls. When I call back no one answers and no one calls back. I am very frustrated.Initial Complaint

Anytime Fitness has continued to charge me twice a month for fees since August for accounts that should have been closed. Ive sent all requested documents several times yet they have failed to stop payments. This is something I have had to involve my bank in as well because they continue to ignore me and process payments to the point my account is getting overdraftsInitial Complaint

My wife and I joined Anytime Fitness last winter. They asked for payments to come from a checking account. It was an open ended agreement that required 30 days notice to cancel. In May 2024 we wanted to cancel and were told to just "Freeze" the accounts in case we want to come back in the fall. We extended our freeze in August, and finally decided to cancel on October 9th. From Aug 28 to Oct 23 they've taken $231.96 from our accounts. We haven't been there since May. They're telling me the 30 day notice cancels the freeze. So we have to pay for 30 days to cancel. They're going to take another payment on Nov 6th, and we can't stop it. That will be $300 in the last 3 months and we haven't been there since May.Business Response

*** and ******* were members that signed up for a 3-month *** in October of last year. The account went month to month and were unaware that would be happening. Froze their account in August and were frustrated with the freeze process and being told different information.
I refunded them ****** and met them in the middle of how much they paid for over the last year. *** was satisfied with the solution.Customer Answer

I recently broke my wrist and decided to cancel my anytime fitness membership as I was unable to use it for the reason I signed up for it. I tried calling the anytime fitness in de *********. They then proceeded to tell me to call the number on a business card and that my membership cant be canceled from location. OK not a big deal, until I called the number and put on hold for an hour just to get a hold of somebody who tells me to email because you cant cancel over the phone. I then email asking to cancel my membership, after a week I get an email saying that I will be charged for the next two months and a cancellation fee. I send another email back, asking if I provide a doctors note, I can avoid cancellation fees. I then received no response. I was in charge for two months and a cancellation fee. Then today I received a call from the ******** location, asking for my key fob back. She told me if I didnt return it I would be charged $50 to my account. I had lost key for before he specifically bought this one for $20. Why should I have to return it? I feel as though if I dont get refunded. I should just cancel the card. My whole experience with Anytime fitness has been a total joke. Dont get me wrong. I love the environment. It is a very nice gym and Staff are very nice. Its at a corporate level thats ridiculous.Business Response

On June 5th, we notified anytime fitness that we needed to cancel one of our anytime fitness accounts and change the joint account over to a single member under my wife. Employee ***** stated that was fine and he could take care of the process. We were told he would send us an email confirming request. ***** changed the account to single member and stated there was nothing further needed. I did not receive any communication regarding special actions needed to cancel the other half of member account. They are now informing me, 2.5 months later that I needed to submit in writing to a 3rd party that handles their billing. This billing company is stating even though I submitted the request to the physical location. They want to charge me for the months of service I did not use and was under impression was cancelled. I will not be paying this fee as I did my part that their employee informed me of.Business Response

I've been a member of Anytime Fitness for about 10 years. I am moving soon and it no longer makes sense for me to continue paying for the membership. I reached out to them to cancel my membership on 07/04/24. 2 weeks later they replied to me to submit the request to another email address. Additionally, they said they require a 30 day notice or they would charge me for another month of membership for any upcoming fees in that timeframe. My next charge was set to pay on 07/30/24 and would continue my membership through the month of August. I declined to pay stating I did not need an additional month of membership and would prefer to just cancel immediately. They refused and charged me again. Bear in mind the payment was not already in motion when I requested the cancellation; they chose to charge again based on a made up rule of theirs. I think this is predatory to try and squeeze an additional month of fees from their customers, especially since I had been a member for a decade already and not just cancelling after signing up a month ago or so. We received this complaint but when looking this member up in the system, he is actually part of a different ownership group and not associated with our clubs. He is a member at the Monona Wisconsin Anytime Fitness which we don't own.

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution is NOT satisfactory to me. I understand that the business that I had an issue with was not connected with the one the complaint was sent to. However, the correct business was not available as an option on the BBB listings, so I included extra info in my complaint to identify to correct business in question. I would still like this to be followed up on for the correct Monona Anytime Fitness business.

I spoke with ******** and was able to rectify the issue. He was most upset with the 30-day notice but also the process that he found difficult to know how to cancel, contact the club, delayed response by the club, and then being re-directed to customer care.
After looking at usage, ******** did not use the club at all in July and felt it was unjustified for him to be charged an additional payment on July 30th since he also had one on June 30th when he did not use the club the preceding month.
I have contacted ABC and refunded the July 30th payment of $44 for ******** and resolved this concern to his satisfaction.Initial Complaint

I signed a contract on Jan 2023, with Anytime Fitness for one year of membership and training package. I was under the impression, it would be one year and it would not roll over together. Due to personal circumstances, I had to take care of my grandpa with a recent ALS diagnosis. I was really unable to attend the gym and training, and was fine paying for the year. However, when I tried contacting the gym it would roll over to voicemail, so I started emailing their corporate *** fitness. I was told in email, that I had no further payments and my account was canceled Feb 28, 2024. Then, I get emails, saying there was a miscommunication and that I needed to pay for my training that wasnt canceled. When, I am unable to use my training without a membership. All of the attachments listed and you can see, I have paid $402 since my membership canceled. They are wanting $1005, or they will send my account to collections. I disputed one of the $67 dollars that noticed in my account and wasnt reached out too since. Am I misunderstanding this situation, or am being scammed here? I feel very confused and mislead from everything sent to me. I dont need a refund for the year, just for the after I thought I was done paying after everything was canceled. Thank youBusiness Response

Signed a 2 year contract Oct. 16 2015. Since the contract expired I have been month to month at the rate set on the contract. My rates were raised without being given the 30 day written notice that is required. After pulling out the contract I found the contract is far from complete. Unfinished mailing address, no ss#, no email, no phone #. I have gone through with the cancellation process because of these issues. I would like the $94 amount that they are trying to collect, beyond when I cancelled nonetheless, to be removed.Business Response

I got a 12 month Gym Membership at Anytime Fitness Horicon Wisconsin on 309 Barstow around July 20th 2022. During the last months of the contract I notifed the Gym Owner/Club Manager of the location I would like to cancel my membership. This was done in person via speech and Via writing. He said "No Problem" fast forward to May *************************** the mail saying that my account has been taken to collections. I call **************** to see why my account has not been canceled and end up speaking to someone named ****. He says he doesn't know why it wasn't canceled and its already in collections so not much he can do and I need to talk to the club where I had my membership through. I explain to him it should of been canceled and the location is no longer open and has been closed. He starts to ask me some additional security questions and then says the name on the Account in *******, which is not my name. All the other info is correct like phone number, address, dob, email. He said only Maravis can cancel the account. I explain to him that is not a real person and they must have the wrong first name. He says he will check into it and I will receive a call back. In the meantime I can not cancel this account that should of been canceled over a year ago and my credit is being ruined and I'm stuck with a collection fee that I should not have. Talking to a few other people from the gym they said they are facing the same issues with the owner never canceling their memberships then deciding to go out of business.Business Response
