Last Monday, November 21st, I moved into my first apartment. I feel that I have been taken advantage of, being a first time young renter. When I was looking for apartments, I was looking for a place that included heat, water, and internet because I cant afford to pay a lot extra. On the Bishops place apartment, all of those things were listed as included. Internet was the first thing under amenities that was included. A few days after I moved in, I emailed my landlord and asked her how I access the internet. She responded back with an email that said internet was not included and that I would have to set it up on my own. When I had told her it was listed on the website, she said that it was not, so I sent her a screen shot of it. She responded back with Im so sorry I will get that taken off right now. I told her that I had chosen the place because of the things included, and she told me I should have asked more questions and that it was my problem. Why would I ask if internet was included when their website said it was. I shouldnt assume that they were false advertising. She told me I should have read the lease more carefully, but I feel that I got taken advantage of. On top of that, everything that is wrong with the apartment are things that I wouldnt have tested out during the tour. The shower screams when I turn on warm water, the microwave doesnt work, and the ceiling fan rattles so much that Im scared it will fall off. I have tried talking to them and resolving these problems myself and was basically just told that it was my choice to pick the place, and it wasnt their problem. I dont make enough money to pay extra for internet unless I cut food, necessities, or electricity out, and those are all things that I need.
