On Dec. 21, 2022 I took my 2006 **** Explorer to Steves Auto Service, **** for repair and they replaced the alternator and battery. After picking it up the vehicle started having many unexplainable issues and it wasnt functional to operate. I took it back to Steves and they said that the alternator they had installed was defective and they replaced it, plus the battery because the faulty alternator had caused it to crack. They did this free of charge, because the new alternator was defective. At this time I was informed that the vehicle now needed a new computer installed and that it would need to be reprogrammed at a **** dealership. I was told that the computer was likely damaged due to the overcharging of the defective alternator. This is stated on the work order they gave me. I was informed that the manufacturer of the alternator would only cover the cost of the defective alternator, but not the computer that it had damaged. Steves wanted me to pay for replacement and reprogramming of the computer, but I believe that I am not responsible for damages that were caused by a defective part that they installed and I would like the repair to be done free of charge by the responsible party. When I initially took my vehicle to Steves for the original repair, the computer in the vehicle was in proper working condition, but because of the repair they did it became damaged.
