Dear Better Business Bureau,Our family had a disturbing experience at the White Stag Inn and are seeking recompense. This goes far beyond a bad restaurant experience. I feel completely taken advantage of. This was the most disgusting substance I had ever put in my mouth. Two of our four family members went home sick with cramps and diarrhea, which lasted until the middle of the next day.We arrived around 8:15 on Friday, April 14, 2023. There were one or two other tables seated, otherwise the dining room was empty. We ordered two ground sirloin sandwiches, one ground sirloin steak meal and a petite steak skewer. The meals were supposed to come with a salad, however, the waitress returned with a full head of iceburg lettuce and a pair of tongs. No additional salad ingredients, just a head of lettuce. The experience degenerated from that point. When our dinners arrived, we were all immediately aware that we were in the presence of spoiled meat. My sirloin steak sandwich was so burned that I could not taste any meat. The flakes of carbon on the meat were an indication that the cooking surface had not been cleaned in years. It tasted as though the meat had been dropped into the burned embers of a fire. We noticed the meat was prepared on what looked like a pizza oven. It was not commercial grade, more like what you would build in your back yard. Many pieces of meat had been charred there before mine. You could taste the buildup. My plate smelled like burnt embers and all I could taste was carbon. The experience got worse from there. When the waitress served our dishes, she rolled up a cart with a stainless steel sauce pan over some kind of electric heat source. She dipped a ladle into the sauce pan and scooped some kind of rancid liquid over the plates. The putrid smell was overpowering. If you have ever had your home sewer pumped, it was a similar experience. My wife took one bite and gagged it back out. That was the end of her meal. My daughter ate a few bites and was sick with stomach cramps by the time we got to the car. It was the most disgusting experience we have ever had. The same cart with the same saucepan was used to serve other tables. We believe the rancid liquid had been sitting out in the dining room festering all day. By this point, it was past 9 oclock, and so whatever was in that saucepan had long since spoiled. It smelled very strongly of rotting meat. I would have complained, but there was no one to complain to. The waitress never returned to our table. We just wanted to get out as quickly as possible. I needed mouthwash to get the taste of carbon out of my mouth (which didnt work). My wife went back into the bar and quickly paid the bill and we rushed out. I wish she would not have. We should never have paid a single cent for ingesting things that made us sick. I called and spoke to the owner when I got home. He hung up on me. We are seeking a refund in the amount of $112.58.

      Dear Complainant,

We are sorry you had in your words a "disturbing experience" at our restaurant.

I will attempt to address your issues:

      * Food poisoning typically takes **** hours for symptoms to appear, perhaps some of your family members had the flu.

*Our meat is cut and prepared fresh daily by our chefs.

*All meats prepared on the open grill for all to see, a great customer experience for the last 68 years.

*The open charcoal grill was constructed by quality craftsman 68 years ago.

*The grates are cleaned between each order served.

*It is a charcoal grill so some charred flavor will be present.

*The sauce you refer to is Au Jus, prepared fresh daily and refrigerated according to state standards.

*All dinners are then taken to the table on a *******, which is a portable heater with hot coals to keep the meat hot and to heat the au jus for serving   hot food to our customers.

*The White Stag's famous salad is served wedge style accompanied by our three homemade salad dressings. Always a customer favorite for 68   years.

*Your server, our employee for over thirty years, was at your table several times through out the evening. She would have been happy to address any issues.

*Our restaurant was fully staffed the evening you dined with us, any one of the staff members would have gladly helped you with any complaint. The   owner was present for the full shift also, as he is every night. We would have been happy to discuss any complaint you had while in the restaurant.

      * I fail to see why you would wait to leave our restaurant with out addressing the issues.

      * I will not even address the phone call that you placed to our establishment and your rude conversation.

*Sorry you had buyers remorse, perhaps your family would be better served at one of the many fast food chain restaurants that specialize in ground   meat.

      * We will NOT BE REFUNDING your $112.58.

      Better Business Bureau:

I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and have determined that this does not resolve my complaint.  For your reference, details of the offer I reviewed appear below.

      [Please type your response here.]
The BBB should not trust anything from this business. This is clearly a disreputable business. Their food is disgusting. They served us dog food and charged a hundred bucks for it. Two people in our family got sick from it. Completely unacceptable.

      Regards,
