I was sold a fire detection system in my home on December 7th, 2024 (a Saturday) through Michigan Safety Advisors (MSA). They had a 3 business day return policy. The purchase was financed through Belmont Finance LLC. I discovered *** told me multiple lies, requested a return, and cancelled the finance loan. I called Belmont on December 9th, 2024 to inform them I was cancelling the loan and to make sure I was following the proper procedure for cancelling the loan. They told me to mail the loan cancellation notice (which they provided me via email) to *** and to get a tracking number. I mailed the notice on December 9th, 2024. Now Belmont is refusing to cancel the loan because their "client" (MSA) has very conveniently refused to acknowledge that they received the loan cancellation notice. I've also been unable to communicate with *** since December 14th, 2023. They won't return calls/emails. I provided Belmont with the tracking number (which they told me to get) showing when I sent the loan cancellation notice and when *** received it. I had multiple email exchanges with Belmont and they repeatedly claimed that they couldn't cancel the loan without MSA informing them they received the notice. They also stated in these emails that they were unable to contact ***. I signed nothing stating that *** had to respond to the notice and no other cancellation policy was sent to me by Belmont. I'm not paying for a product that I requested a return on. Both MSA and Belmont are scamming me, plain and simple. Under both MI and WI law, I have the right to cancel within 3 business days. I notified Belmont by phone, notified MSA via email, and mailed the cancellation notice all within 3 business days. I've already filed complaints against *** and both of these companies are refusing to cooperate. I want this loan cancelled because again, I'm not paying for a product that I legally requested a return on.

I had an agreement with this company to take out money each month for the smoke detectors that I had purchased. I had come on hard times and ask this company in August of 2024 to cancel my account and they said it was too late to cancel I only had 90 days to do that and it was past that time. I told them I did not have the funds to pay them they said they would work out something with me for the next 4 months to help me get through this hard time that I was having. We agreed on half the payment starting in September 2024. They ended up taking out the full payment and overdraw my account. I contacted them and talked to a manager they said I needed proof from the bank which I had gotten and tried to email it to them they said it would take 24 to 48 hours for them to decide I did that with covid and couldn't get an email sent to them so I asked the bank to help me send an email to them regarding my account. I gave them four days I did not hear nothing from them so I contacted the bank and the bank went after them for the money they owed me and the overdraft fee. I had called to let them know I was getting a new bank account and they said that I owed them $79 and another $25 for whatever fee and I didn't. The bank is the one that took out the regular amount that I have them withdraw every month I only ask them to refund the amount that was a negative and the overdraft fee I still have not received any word from them. As of now I do not trust them to take any more money out of my account they are not trustworthy one person does one thing one person does another thing their business is very poor they do not work with people and I am filing this grievance because they don't know how to do business please help us figure this out thank you.

I PURCHASED A PRODUCT WHICH WAS FIANACED BY BELMONT FINANCE. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CONTRACT WOULD BE EMAILED OUT TO ME WHICH NEVER OCCURRED. ALTHOUGH THE SALESPERSON WENT OVER THE CONTRACT AT THAT TIME THERE WAS NEVER TIME FOR ME TO PROPERLY REVIEW THIS CONTRACT LATER BECAUSE IT WAS NEVER EMAILED TO ME. I NEVER KNEW WHAT THE CANCELATION POLICY WAS SINCE IT WAS NEVER EMAILED TO ME TO READ. THE CUSTOMER SERVICE PERSON JUST KEPT SAYING YOU CAN GO TO THE PORTAL, BUT I AM 84 YEARS OLD GOING TO A PORTAL IS NOT SOMETHING I UNDERSTAND. I WANT THE CONTRACT CANCELLED ALL I EVER RECIEVED FROM THIS COMPANY WAS LOAN DOCUMENTS THAT WERE EMAILED TWICE DUE TO A PROBLEM ON THEIR END OR THE SALESPERSON END.

    Business Response

    Date: 11/28/2023

The terms of the contract were verified with the customer at its inception. The contract was made available to the customer from the date of signing. The customer had already used the portal successfully to sign the contract and can access it at any time. This contract is legally binding and will not be cancelled.

I had already paid this company in full. I tried to to cancel my account online, it would not let me. I spoke with a representative from Belmont told them I paid them and to delete my account information and to not contact me again. A few days later they took money put of my account after they had already been paid in full. I called my bank and told them to stop the payment and put a block on all transactions from this company. Now this company is trying to charge me $50 for the unauthorized transaction being returned. I just paid them in full and I am not paying them anything else. This is their mistake and they need to delete this charge and all of my account information as I have requested. I spoke with another representative today and they refused to cancel the charge claiming its my fault my account was still setup for auto pay. This company lied to me about the interest from day one and is now trying to scam more money from me.

We have already been in contact with this customer. This customer made an online payment, and also had automatic payments(ACH) set up for this account. To cancel the automatic payment the customer would have needed to contact us prior to the transaction. The interest rate is included on every statement sent to the customer, and on the contract that we verified with the customer at the start of the loan. We do not delete account information.  As a courtesy, we have waived the fee, and this account is closed as Paid In Full.

I agree to purchase a product for about $3700 in Jan 2022. It was an electronic app that the salesperson had on their device that I signed. My FICO is always around 840 with household income over $160k. I don't emails from Belmont Finance that I have a statement available; I do not get balance updates. I never got my account number from them so couldn't log into their website to check anything. I finally called to get my account number and low and behold, there was NOTHING there. No account at all. I called them back to find out they have NEVER issued statements but that this weekend they are making a software transition so I can log in next week to see my balance. Is it not federally-mandated to provide statements? This smells of a class action lawsuit.

    Business Response

Belmont Finance, LLC, confirmed the terms of this loan with the customer in January, 2022. The interest rate(APR) is included on the contract, which the customer stated they received, and is a legally permissible rate in their state for this type of loan. The customer was then sent a "Welcome Letter" to the address they provided. Included in this letter is the customer's account number, and for customers with an installment loans, the letter also includes the monthly payment amount and payment due date. Customers can contact Belmont Finance at anytime during our hours of operation and request information on their account, including their account number or to request a statement be sent. At this time. we are moving forward to provide a more informative, self-service website for our customers. We can be reached at **************, or ******************************************* with any further questions or concerns.

I have made payments, but then got called all the time saying they needed more money. They text and call me all the time. I called to make a deal or pay in full, was told they couldn't take any money from me. They said that someone else owed it. I have never gotten anything from anyone else not even a phone call. Asked why are they still calling and texting me, or even reporting anything about it then if they don't own it can can't take money from me. Was told because they can. I don't feel that they are doing anything legit or legally.

We have not attempted to contact this customer since 02/2022. The customer made three payments on a loan that originated in 06/2021.  As we were unable to successfully make contact, the account was assigned to an outside servicing company in 03/2022. They were also unsuccessful in contacting the customer. Subsequently, the account has been recently sold to ************************, *********************************************************************, PH:**************.

I bought a Rainbow vaccuum cleaner, and financed all but $1,000. The contract was an interest free loan (same as cash) for 1 year. If it was not paid off, interest would start on the 13th month and continue through the 18th month when the contract would end. The default down payment for a 18 month contract was either $350 or $450. I made a $1,000 down payment, and my monthly payments were to be $218.09. I get the first statement and they have set me up for straight forward 18 month contract (not same as cash) with 18% interest. I called them, and they adjusted the automatic draft so the loan would be paid off within a year. Next month's statement comes, and they deduct the $218.09, but record me paying $154.20 with interest then applying the remaining $63.89 on the next month's bill. The loan was still set up for 18 months, and still accruing interest. On the next phone call I told them I was going to pay the loan off that (this) month. I set up the payoff, it was drafted, then they deducted an overpayment of $218.09. When I called them to straighten this mess out, they informed me that it would take 4-6 weeks for them to process the refund. I told them that was unacceptable, that the money needed to be back in my account next week, and that I was going to contact BBB, and share my experience on social media.

This customer had a Same As Cash option on their loan. All Same As Cash loans have interest starting from the inception of the loan. The interest is waived when the customer pays in full before the Same As Cash date expires. This customer set up a payoff, and had also set up a normal monthly payment for the same date. This was not an error on the part of Belmont Finance. Refunds of overpayments are system generated and this customer will be sent their refund on approximately 05/11/23.

When I talked to a lady from Belmont Finance on a recorded phone call, (April 28, 2023, at 10:44am) I was told I would have my refund in seven days or less. May 11, is 9 business days/two full weeks from April 28.

In addition to that, the numbers on the front of the contract do not match with the terms of the contract. The contract states several things that the numbers do not support. According to the promotional sales clause (letter I), no interest will be paid during the same as cash promotional period. Belmont tried to charge interest every month until I paid it off in full. If Belmont takes interest before the 12 months SAC is over, do they repay the interest if the contract is paid within the promotional period? If so, why is that not clearly stated in the contract? IF someone has paid x amount of interest over n amount of months (less than 12), and the amount of interest paid would pay off the loan, will Belmont allow the interest paid to cancel out the principal. If not, why?

The customer paid the principal of this loan within the time frame of their SAC promotion, and their loan is Paid In Full. As a result of meeting the terms of their SAC promotion they were charged no interest. A refund of the overpayment on this loan was generated on 05/05/2023.

Attached is the last monthly statement received from Belmont LLC. They claim they did not charge interest. According to this statement they did charge interest. Please see attachment. Please see previous response for questions regarding how this amount would have been handled should I have stayed on this billing plan. I may not have been charged interest when it was all said and done, but throughout the process I was wrongly charged interest with little to no explanation of origin.

We did not claim to not charge interest on this 18 month contract. The terms of the loan are clearly stated under the Federal Truth-In-Lending Disclosures section of the customer's contract, and the terms of the contract were verified with the customer on 01/28/2023. The customer paid the principal of this loan within their 12 month SAC promotional period, and all interest was waived for this loan. As stated previously, the customer has been sent a refund of their overpayment.
