On 10/04/2023, WeatherPro Exteriors (“WeatherPro”) warranted it would: “(1) perform a complete tear off and replacement of the roof shingles on the front half of my home and above my bay window, (2) replace exhaust venting pods with new premium slant back roof vents, (3) use Duration Shingles with Patented SureNail Strip for fewer holes in roof deck, 130 mph wind protection, and StreakGuard algae resistance protection, (4) install a [roof] free from defects due to such installation for as long as I reside there, and (5) provide labor at no cost to me for one (1) year from the date of the installation for repairs of any installation defects. (See attached Contract.) WeatherPro performed the work in November of 2023. (See photos before WeatherPro’s work.) By May 8, 2024, I observed extensive roof leakage above my bay window and in the front room to the immediate right of the bay window, so I notified ***** at WeatherPro and asked that someone come by to inspect the roof and address the new leaks. ***** said WeatherPro would send someone to my house on the 16th. On May 16, 2024, Mr. *** ******* came and inspected the roof, attic, ceiling, and wall stains caused by the new leaks. *** assured me he would talk with his boss and get back to me within 24 hrs. However, he never called me back. On May 20, 2024, I called WeatherPro again. I spoke to ******** and informed her that the new leaks now extended two feet into the front room and there were new leaks in the front room west of the bay window. I expressed my concern that the faulty roof was damaging my ceilings, discoloring the walls, new leaks are showing up, and there’s possible mildew/mold problems. ******** had *** call me and he agreed to return. When *** arrived, he said WeatherPro had no crews available to fix the roof nor did he have a timeline for when I could expect repairs of the roof. (See photos post WeatherPro’s work.) It has rained several more times since ***’s May 20, 2024 visit.

RE: Complaint #******** - Weather Pro Exteriors

      Ms. ******,

On May 29, 2024, I submitted a complaint with the Better Business Bureau (BBB) against Weather Pro Exteriors for failing to properly complete contracted roof repairs at my residence located at **** ** *** ****** ******* *** ******** ** *****. In response to my BBB complaint, Weather Pro Exteriors came back to my home, inspected the roof and attic, and falsely reported back to the BBB that there were no issues with the roof repairs they performed.

To ensure my concerns were not unfounded, I obtained two independent assessments of my roof.

On June 27, 2024, I had Mr. ****** *****, from ********* ******* *** ***********, come to my residence and perform an assessment of my roof and attic. After performing his assessment, Mr. ***** reported that there are problems with the roofing “repairs” Weather Pro Exteriors performed. According to Mr. *****, Weather Pro Exteriors failed to properly install the slant back roof vents. (i.e., the vents are not placed close enough to the ridge, creating improper ventilation in the attic).

On July 11, 2024, I had Mr. **** ****, from ***** *** *********, come to my residence and perform an additional assessment of my roof and attic. Mr. ****’s assessment also concluded that the roof was improperly ventilated. According to Mr. ****, Weather Pro Exteriors’ placement of the exhaust vents was improper because they were at the same level as the gable vents (intake vents) which renders the exhaust vents “pretty useless”.

Both assessments, corresponding notes from each company, and the recommended repairs are included. (See red folder under “Second Opinions 1 & 2, as well as, written notes documented for June 27th and July 11th).

Weather Pro Exteriors’ personnel have repeatedly lied to me and to the BBB, they have threatened to put a lien on my property despite having been paid in full for their shoddy workmanship, and Mr. ****** *****, Weather Pro Exteriors’ registered agent, refused to accept my written complaint documenting my concerns. As a result, I do not trust that Weather Pro Exteriors is capable of appropriately completing the roof repairs my home needs and I have grave concerns about their complete lack of integrity.

Given that two well respected roofing companies separately and independently inspected my roof and came to the same conclusion, that the work Weather Pro Exteriors performed was the cause of my roof’s improper ventilation, I am asking the BBB to assist me in getting Weather Pro Exteriors to return my money.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns. I am available at ************** or at ###-###-####.

Thank you for investigating my complaint and assisting me in obtaining an expedient resolution.

      Sincerely,

Thank you for your help with this matter.  After we were able to prove beyond any doubt that Ms. ****** **** did not have the leaks, moisture, and mold she claimed to have she has now switched her focus on to something else.  This time it is ventilation.  It is our opinion that the complaint should not have been reopened.

Let me be clear, we did not do a roof replacement for Ms. ****** ****, we did a roof repair.  She told us that the front of her roof was leaking prior to us doing the repairs at her home.  The repairs we did have proven to be leak free.  As per the documents she sent in to you, the other contractors that she has contacted make no mention of mold or of leaks.

Ms. ****** **** told us that she did not have the funds or budget to reroof her home.  If we would have reroofed her home (rather than to just do the roof repair we were contracted to do) we would have addressed the ventilation.  She didn’t have the funds to reroof her home, nor did she have the funds to address all of the other items she should have done, or that could be done at this home to improve it.  This is an older home that would require a lot of work to bring it up to modern standards.

I agree Ms. ****** **** does have a ventilation issue with her home.  We pointed this out to her and did our best to make the situation better than when we arrived.  Her ventilation issue was worse before we did our repair.  She originally had a ridge vent and two gable vents. Prior to our arrival her gable vents and ridge vent were doing nothing more than just sucking air in the gable vent and immediately exhausting to the ridge vent that was directly above it.  There was no ventilation making its way into the attic, or down from the ridge.

Ms. ****** **** told us that she did not have the funds or budget to properly address all of the issues with her home, so she had us focus her budget dollars on stopping any leaking she had in the front of her home, which we did.  We made the ventilation situation much better than it was prior to our arrival.  We did so by installing pod vents further down the roof and spaced across the front of her home so that the air could be pulled further in and down.  Please note that the attic is packed full of personal items (nearly floor to ceiling) which would greatly impede any attempt for air flow or air movement.

Ms. ****** **** only had the budget for, and only contracted for a roof repair.  She did not contract to have her entire roof replaced, she did not contract to have her ventilation issue addressed, she did not contract to have the insulation levels in her home brought up to current code.  She got everything she paid for and more.  We even found that her bathroom fan duct was disconnected in her attic.  It wasn’t venting outside, and it was dumping humid bathroom air directly into her attic.  We remedied this for her at no charge.  We left her home in much better condition than it was in when we arrived.

We did what we were contracted to do.  Ms. ****** **** paid for and received a roof repair.  We could have and would have gladly done all the items she is speaking of had she contracted for them and paid for them, which she did not.

We respectfully consider this matter closed.

      Thank you,
      WeatherPro Exteriors INC

I am extremely disappointed in WeatherPro's response to my complaint, but at this point I am not at al surprised by it. WeatherPro has consistently lied, made up excuses, and just generally failed to do the right thing in this case.

I entered into with WeatherPro back in October of 2023. In accordance with paragraph 7 of the contract, I was required to notify WeatherPro in writing if I experienced any issues with the roof repairs they performed. I did that. When they came to my property to inspect it, I allowed them access on three separate occasions. Each time WeatherPro personnel inspected my attic, they came up with a different reason why I was to blame. When I informed WeatherPro I was going to have another company provide an independent assessment of its work, WeatherPro representatives told me that I had to have a WeatherPro representative present for that assessment. WeatherPro further threatened that if I did have another assessment done, WeatherPro would argue with anyone who claimed there were any defects in its workmanship.

Not only is that behavior completely unprofessional, it was also meant to serve as an intimidation tactic that forces me to accept WeatherPro's position. Unfortunately for WeatherPro, I did not heed their threats. Instead, I had two independent assessments of WeatherPro's work done. Both confirmed what I already knew to be true, the "repairs" WeatherPro did to my roof are in fact the reason my home is being damaged now.

Unlike WeatherPro, I have done more than rely on mere rhetoric to support my complaint. I provided the BBB with before and after photos of my attic, copies of the post-WeatherPro independent assessments of my roof, and copies of the relevant contracts (previous roof repair completed in 2017 and the current WeatherPro contract). I leave it to the BBB to come to whatever conclusion it believes is appropriate under these circumstances.

My complaint is not, nor has it ever been, that WeatherPro failed to repair my entire roof. (The fact that my entire roof needs to be redone now is just another consequence of having WeatherPro perform the initial roof repair on my home.) My complaint is that after WeatherPro completed its "repairs" on the front half of my roof, there have been moisture and poor ventilation issues in my attic and it is damaging my home. I have lived in my home for over 30 years and those issues did not exist before WeatherPro worked on my roof. Yet WeatherPro is intent on trying to re-frame the issue to be related to my bathroom vent, or items stored in my attic, or my alleged lack of budget. But none of those things are the actual problem and I am not asking the BBB to take my word for it. I provided the BBB with two independent assessments so the BBB could evaluate the veracity of my complaint based on objective facts, not my opinion.

While WeatherPro considers this matter closed, I do not. I have followed both the letter and the spirit of my contract with WeatherPro, and they have not upheld their end of the bargain. I understand the BBB cannot force WeatherPro to honor its obligations under the contract and that I will have to litigate this matter to obtain that remedy. All I ask is that other consumers be protected from WeatherPro's predatory and unprofessional behavior. Specifically, WeatherPro's BBB rating should not be an "A". It is misleading, it provides consumers with a false sense of security when doing business with WeatherPro, and it degrades the A ratings given to companies that have actually earned them. I trusted it and look where I am now.
