I agreed to have Jeff Adkins Handyman business paint in my home after he came to my home and gave me a quote of $3,886.25. He then sent me a text to accept the quote, which I did...not realizing I was apparently sign a contract that was very one sided as far as he could change dates without any input from the consumer. He then sent me another text message to begin the job Oct. 3, 2022 and then sent a text on Sept. 29 saying he wouldn't be able to start on the agreed date and would try to start on Oct. 10. On Oct. 7, I contacted Mr. Adkins to cancel the job since I was feeling I was getting the run around. He then called me very upset and said we had a contract and I would be getting a bill for $895 for cancelling and be charged $25 a day everyday it was not paid. I read through the terms on his website ****************************** and it does state a $300 cancelation fee and he can charge for materials. He did send me an invoice for $712.18 for cancelation and materials. I did pay the invoice via check, but as a consumer I feel I should at least receive the materials he purchased since I paid for them. I feel like I was taken advantaged of by Mr. Adkins' scare tactics. I also feel that I never physically sign a contract and had to pay for something I never got...his tone on the phone with me was not what I would call professional. Before I paid the invoice I did offer for him to still do the job since I was having to pay anyway, and he stated "no you cancelled". That make me question if he is scam people based on how his terms and conditions are written. I would hope the BBB would make note of this behavior so others do no fall victim and require him to be more up front with his Terms and Conditions by updating them to be fair to both his company and his consumers. Cancelling a job that never began should not cost me $712.18 and I have nothing to show for this amount of money spent. So lost to what do to do next.
