I put a wedding dress in layaway in October, 2021. I put half down ($800) for the deposit and the continued to make monthly payments anywhere from $35 to $100 up through May, 2022. I have canceled my wedding and no longer need the dress. I called to cancel and they won't even offer a partial refund of the money I've paid since the deposit!

      To whom it may concern.
I received a letter in the mail on Saturday concerning a customer complaint, iD ********. The customer is implying that we did not offer her a partial payment on the layaway of her wedding gown that she purchased last October and the wedding was to be in July of 2022. All customers are supposed to put 50% down on the total of the dress at the time of purchase, We worked with this customer and let her make payments towards her 50% deposit towards her dress so she could have her dream dress for her special day. She put a 600.00 deposit down the day of purchase and made payments towards the 50% deposit, The 50% down would have been 887.75. She was at 850.00 on March 5th which was her last payment made. When she called to cancel on June 4th i explained to her that per the contract she signed stating no returns or exchanges on layaways after 24 hours. We could not do a refund but would not make her finish paying off the dress and would put it out to sell. Wedding gowns are reordered as soon as they are purchased from our store so the next bride has a selection to try on. We take the 50% down to reorder the replacement dress which is why we do not refund or do returns on wedding gowns.
I have the signed copy of her contract which she signed and agreed to. I did not ask her for her full payment on the dress and I'm taking the loss on the replacement which I would not have had to reorder if she would not have purchased the original.
We are sorry' that she had to cancel her event but in order to stay in business we have to have a contract to keep our business functioning so we do not have to close down.
