I purchased just a package from this facility Approximately 2 months ago. A few weeks later I was Unsure if it was safe to continue laying in a tanning bed so my package was switched to a spray tan As a precautionary. After speaking with my high risk specialist he did clarify the fact that it was temperature related and as long as my body did Not exceed a certain degrees or I was sweating, I was clear to continue regular tanning. At this point, I called back to the facility and spoke with Christie in regards to switching my package back to the level 5 monthly membership. This was honored and I resumed my tanning sessions. On 3/26/23, I came in to Tan and was instructed by Kiera, that had evidently contacted Christie and stated I could not Tan while pregnant. She then went on to give me medical reasons in Which why they would not allow me to tan. She focused on The exposure of rays in which I did state that that was not the main safety concern with tanning. She developed an attitude and rolled her eyes as if I did not know what I was talking about even after me expressing I did have some medical degree and was educated by my Physician. She then contacted Christie again which also stated the same, with me reiterating the fact that it was temperature related and I was lying in an "open air" and an "air conditioned" bed for a reason. I was still denied My right to tan due to Pregnancy. There was no medical proof with rays as they were using as their excuse for not permitting me to utilize my membership. I even tried. To explain again that it was temperature related and I was cleared from my physician. I requested a refund at this point and a copy Of my contract. I Then visited the site and Reviewed policy to see If there were store specific Stipulations in regard to pregnancy in which none was found. I feel this was a personal decision and I am being discriminated against and it was very known that I was pregnant initially due to switching packages, Which she now denies.

      Business response

On Saturday March 25th the employee Kira arrived to open the store Jenni was standing outside waiting for the store to open and made the comment to the employee about being pregnant (first time any of us heard of the pregnancy). Kira called and told me (Christie) about the pregnancy, and I responded with she can't lay in our beds while pregnant our beds have new bulbs and are too hot. never said anything about UV rays being harmful, I have worked in this company for 12 years I know it's the heat and our beds are HOT. Jenni also has been laying the full time in these beds after new bulbs were put in before we found out she was pregnant. When she switched her membership back to tanning beds she told the employee working that her doctor stated she was fine to lay in a tanning bed because sweating was no longer an issue. I also never received any kind of doctor's letter saying it was ok for her to be in a tanning bed while pregnant. I also told Kira Saturday when she called that I would give her a refund she just has to come in while I'm working to get it because I'm the only one with access to refunds.
it also states in our contract that she initialed and signed that Glo and / Electric Beach reserves the right to cancel your membership at any time.
