BBB Central Ohio: Consumers shouldn’t race to buy gaming chair from Ewin Racing
With excitement building for the release of Braid, Anniversary edition and Paper Mario, Better Business Bureau (BBB) is advising consumers to be wary of ordering a game chair from Ewin Racing.
Ewin Racing sells gaming chairs for $269 - $500 on their website and at Amazon, Best Buy, Esports Furniture, and Walmart. Ewin Racing has an F rating with BBB for not responding to 35 complaints from consumers across 20 states. BBB estimates consumer losses of at least $15,000 to date.
Consumers allege the chairs are defective and that Erwin Racing fails to honor their warranties, fails to ship replacement parts, and fails to respond to emails requesting assistance.
BBB has written to the business regarding these practices but has not received a response. The address on file for Ewin Racing, 6728 Liggett Rd Ste. 130, Dublin, OH 43016-8306, appears to be their warehouse. Mr. Yujing Qian, the owner of the business, holds several trademarks at the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
BBB verified with the Ohio Secretary of State that Mr. Qian registered the business as an Ohio Corporation on 07/03/2017. Using a domain search site, BBB determined that the website http://www.Ewinracing.com was created on 07/07/2016.
BBB offers the following advice for consumers shopping online:
Check for The Sign of a Better Business. The BBB Seal is earned by brands that meet BBB’s Standards for Trust and is designed to give users instant assurance they’re dealing with a trusted brand. Look for the seal on the brand’s homepage or social media profile to see if they’re BBB Accredited. You can also double-check by searching for the brand on BBB.org.
Check the seller’s reviews and ratings. These exist on various platforms, but authentic, verified reviews can be accessed from a company’s BBB Profile as well. When reading reviews, look for trends – positive or negative – and take note of how the company responds.
Check for a secure website. Look for the “https://” URL structure in the company’s web address, as well as the padlock symbol in the address bar. These verify you’ve got a secure connection and encryption of your data. More information on website security.
Check for contact information. Whether it’s a street address, an email, or a phone number, contact information is crucial in giving you a way to contact a company.
Create strong passwords. For every online account you use – take the time to create a strong password. And when you’re logging into your accounts, enable two-factor authentication for added security.
