Called and told us that our *** bill would be cut in half with Easy Energy. Our *** bill has doubled even tripled since signing up with Easy Energy and we are locked into a contract until April 1st. When we called Fortis to try and go back we were told that we cant until April 1st. That Easy Energy is targeting pensioners. Our January *** bill was $600. This is criminal!Business Response

Hi and I hope you can help me with this. I received a phone call from Easy Energy back in November, and they promised me a better rate on my natural gas. They wanted to do a credit check on me to find out if I was a good credit risk because I was supposedly getting a better rate than the one Fortis BC currently charges. Because the mail service was interrupted soon after that time, I did not receive the letter from ****** warning me about private gas contracts and providers. I did not realize that the price quoted (6$ per gigajoule) was significantly more than I was currently paying. This became clear today when I looked over the letter that ****** sent to me on December 2, which would have arrived in time for me to cancel the contract with Easy energy if I had received it in time. Our contract starts in April of this year, but I want it cancelled as I now have more information about them and I am very alarmed. If I had received the mail in time from ******, as I said, I would have been more careful. As it was, they falsely represented themselves as being connected to Fortis and promising to provide the gas at the cheaper rate if prices go down (this was a direct lie). The contract says it is a fixed price, but then says maximum price beside the rate, as if you will be charged lower rates when the prices go down. This is purposely confusing and deceptive, in my opinion. Please let us know what can be done, as I absolutely want nothing to do with this company and I want the contract revoked if possible. Your help would be greatly appreciated in resolving this problem. Thank you!Business Response

On August 1, 2024, an Easy Energy *** came to our rental. The *** said they sell gas to ******** and wanted to adjust a rate to protect us from overbilling. The *** had both an Easy Energy sign and ****** sign, saying they are partnered with ****** as a gas seller. He explained that it was a flat rate of 120 dollars a month for the year, so that it ***** out as Winter we would have gas on all the time vs summer where it wouldn't be used that much. I found this reasonable and there was NO mention of the 6.75/GJ. ******** charges 2.25/Gj. It is 3 times the amount and this is very manipulative. There was also no explanation of the ending of the contract, just that for I would have this "protection" for 5 years even if I were to move. I felt very pressured and also that it was almost mandatory to sign up with Easy Energy as I had just opened our ****** account recently. This company is scamming and manipulating people to sign up. Charging 3 times the amount and having ridiculous contract ending clauses has caused a lot of stress. I feel very taken advantage of and it is my fault for not doing enough research but this is so wrong. They lied about certain things and withheld other important information.Business Response

I writing on behalf of my very confused 95 year old Aunt in regards to a company named Easy Energy. We recently found out that she has been paying for gas/heat from a company other than *********. A *** of this company knocked on her door in regards to her gas/heating her home. My very confused Aunt (after hearing from the ***) thought her gas/heat would be cut off if she didnt sign up for their service. So she signed a contract, the funny thing is she was already under contract with a similar company ********************* that was about to expire. I had spoken to the *** from ********** and told them she was not interested in their services anymore and since the contract was expiring in Dec 2025, please do not contact her again. They sent her another contract to sign in December 2025. We called Fortis and they informed us that my Aunt had signed up in 2022 for Easy Energy under the same premise as ********** Services. 1) we are confused how she could be under contract for 2 different companies at the same time charging her a surcharge for gas supplied from *********. (Are these companies sharing info/are they connected?) 2) we would like the contract to be declared null and void as in my opinion, the ***s are knowingly taken advantage of elderly senior citizens. Since she is living on a small pension, she cant afford to pay the extra $3.00 per KJ of gas per month. We would like her to be with Fortis BC for her gas service/payments, but we cant until the contract situation has been dealt with. We appreciate any and all help we can get to resolve this matter and relieve the stress my 95 year old Aunt is currently under due to this situation. Thank you in advance **** ********Customer Answer

I was solicited a phone call June 2023 to provide an upper limit of the price of gas. With no down side. Never once was 'fixed' price used. I would NEVER buy a fixed price of something, especially for 5 years. I was assured I would pay market price if it were below their 'maximum' guarantee.I am moving a there is a $0.40/day cancelation fee for each day under contract ~3.5 years. So at a minimum that's $500. Plus the fact they have charged me $6.5/gj despite the natural gas price being 2-3x less. 17 months x ~$3/gj at 8gj/month = $408. In total I've overpaid for gas without realizing it, and they are forcing me to continue to overpay, or pay a termination charge of $0.40/day.Business Response

On August 29, 2024 a woman came to my door claiming to be a gas seller for Easy Energy who is affiliated with ********. She asked me if I could verify if I was already signed up on my bills, I showed her my bill and I was not. She explained that Easy Energy sells gas to ********, and if I sign up I would have a fixed rate for my gas bills. It was not explained to me that my price would be substantially higher than what I was currently paying! She did not mention this price or show me any information about how any price was calculated. I feel completely manipulated, she made me feel like by signing I was "locking in" to my current price, not some arbitrary number! She had me fill out paperwork and while I do see the price on there now, I'm pretty sure she wrote down a number after I had signed it. I understand this was completely my mistake for not doing my research.I would like my price to be matched to Fortis' price of @2.230/GJ or my contract to be cancelled! This is so fraudulent and wrong to trick people. I felt pressured to sign and I'm extremely upset by the "terms" of this contracts fine print.Business Response

My Mom always took care of the finances. She is very old and living on a pension, and she had recently succumbed to Rapid Onset Dementia. I went from my home in ******* to their home in **************** to exercise the Power of Attorney given to me, to figure out my elderly parents' finances and settle them into more suitable accommodations. Dad is pretty much crippled and Mom has severe memory issues, necessitating contracted ********* for them. I now handle the finances. We canceled the natural gas sent to their home on August 1, 2024, as they have since been moved into a seniors' residence. Then we received a collections letter regarding their gas account for 'Liquidated Damages' for terminating the Agreement (ER0000088) prior to the 'Agreement's End Date'.These 'Liquidated Damages' were to be paid to Easy Energy, some sort of rebated rate "provider" when the actual Gas was sent by ****** and the gas bill was always paid to Fortis. In good faith, I paid said 'Liquidated Damages' in the amount of $134.16.Later, upon reading said Agreement, I noted it was signed by my mother, even though the Agreement was in my father's name, which was strange enough. I also noted the Agreement was signed May 11, 2019 for a five year term.Five years from said signing date would be May 11, 2024, meaning that Agreement with Easy Energy ended almost three months before my parents moved out of the house.Easy Energy, in my opinion, did not act in good faith and sent a collections notice to seniors on a pension for a contract that had already expired.I wish to have the amount of $134.16 paid in good faith from us to be refunded. I also serve notice here that Easy Energy, and any and all affiliated collections agencies of Easy Energy, whether directly employed or third party contracted, are not to contact my parents or any other member of my family regarding this Agreement. This includes: emails; phone calls; written letters; or personal visits. Effective immediately.Business Response

On March 23, 2023, I received a call from ********** @ Easy Energy. He advised that they are a natural gas provider and only source their fuel from Canadian companies. He then went on to say that Fortis BC gets the fuel from American sources. He offered a flat rate and confirmed several times that the rate would never go up. I asked several times if we would get a lower rate if the cost of gas went down, to which he responded it would. The contract I received was initialled by me digitally, which ********** said was okay, however he did not ask for a POA document. I just discovered what a scam this really is after receiving my year end statement from Fortis and my equal monthly instalment went from $100 per month to $134 which is extreme compared to past years. Contacted Fortis who advised Easy Energy is charging $8 per gigajoule & the going rate is $2.23 We need to get out of this contract.Business Response

Easy Energy is telling me Mar 4 2023 I signed a 5 year term with them via a sales ********** is not true, I was given no terms, no talk of a contract and nothing indicating easy energy was a company. The rep represented himself as a Fortis BC ********** is fraud. I told him to leave us alone as 4 agents had come by bugging us and I told him we do not own this property. He said that we sign this regulatory form and there wouldn't be anymore door to door visits it was just to regulate our price so Fortis can't increase our rates, he made it sound like a petition and no term was given and I was not told that it was a contract. He said it gets us a better rate and I'll get an email or text to confirm and that he visited the house. I said fine and signed the petition and accepted the rate I guess. Fast forward to now and Easy Energy who I had zero idea who or what they even are has collections department calling me saying that when i cancelled my fortis I violated my 5 year agreement with them?? What... What five year agreement? that's what they said I had signed and agreed to but as I stated none of that was told to me nor did I even now who they were, they pretended to be a Fortis employee. They want 40 cents a day for five years so roughly $915 for scamming me by lying and pretending to be Fortis. I don't think so.. Pretty sure this is illegal and they should be shut down in my opinion. They are threatening to send us to collections unless we provide our new adress, which I have no intention of giving them so they can continue to harrass me. I have no intent to give a dime for something I never was given information too and flat out lied to about. I want this ****** fee wiped and them to leave me alone. They knew we rented and did not own the property so what makes them think I would sign an agreement C mon this doesn't even make sense I'm hoping common sense prevails here and I don't have to pursue a police report for impersonating a Fortis rep.Business Response
