My wife and I have been with Belair/********* for 10+ years and have never had an issue. Due to a clerical error and the ****** **** strike, they were unable to take a payment from us ONCE. Never did they notify us, they never called us, they did however try to send us a registered letter which couldn't be delivered. They simply cancelled our home insurance policy without notifying us. Had they notified us, we could have rectified the issue, but they chose not to. So I finally come to find out I've been living without home insurance for about week now. This entire ordeal will now negatively impact our ability to recieve insurance coverage in the future, which is unfair as it was a miscommunication and an oversight. The agent my wife spoke to on the phone was rude, argumentative, and kept interrupting her and not letting her speak. This is deplorable customer service and one would expect this person to see let be respectful or somewhat helpful. He also denied each request she made to speak with a supervisor or manager. Thankfully, we were able to obtain coverage elsewhere and I STRONGLY urge everyone to avoid Belair for their insurance needs.belairdirect

Thank you for bringing our client’s concern to our attention, as always we take our client’s concerns very seriously. For this particular incident, our client has been contacted and our recorded calls reviewed. It was found that we followed all correct procedures in regards to the policy cancelation. Recieved a quote online and they stated they had to call to confirm. Once they called with all the same information the quote suddenly went up $1200/year. Very shady business practicebelairdirect

We were able to connect with the client and we discussed how the online quoting tool makes assumptions such as, clean claims records, driving records, insurance history, and includes multiline discounts. In this case, when all driver and vehicle information was entered by an agent, the quote was amended based on the personalized rating factors for this driver.
We also discussed how insurance rates can differ between insurance companies based on concentration of business in their area. The more business one insurer has in the area could having higher rates due to a higher risk of more claims being paid out.

They told me they were taking the payment out on a certain date then they took it on a different date they they made me pay 80 more to renew then when I went to call to pay the remaining balance they had it cancelled on mebelairdirect

Changed the price after they provide a quote! A week after I committed and went through with the quote they changed the price because they made an error and charged me over 500 more per year. Shady business practices if you ask me! They may seem cheaper but not great service if they don’t honour a quote they provided. Stay away!belairdirect

My Dad had a home in North Vancouver and he used Belairdirect as his house insurance. When Dad died I had the insurance transferred into my name until the house was sold. In mid-Nov 2023 we accepted an offer. I immediately contacted Belair advising them of this and told them that I wanted to cancel the insurance as of Nov 28/23. They didn't think that I could cancel the insurance. I sent supporting documents to them, including a Contract of Purchase and Sale indicating that the house was sold. In the beginning of Dec I noticed that the monthly fee had still come out of my account despite the numerous emails and conversations. In Dec I put a stop payment on any withdrawals from Belairdirect. On January 26, my bank messed up and another payment was withdrawn from my account. This company is unbelievable. I had approximately 10 emails and at least that many telephone conversation. They would not let me cancel the insurance. The house was no longer ours and yet they kept withdrawing money. I'm not sure if this is considered fraud but it was a huge hassle. I will keep the stop payment on my account as I believe that they will still try withdrawing money. I have never seen anything like this.belairdirect

I have only been with Johnson for about a year. It is not going well. I don't know how many companies are involved, or if they are just playing games, but the couple of times I have tried to call them, I get transferred over and over. Each person tells me that whatever I am calling about is the responsibility of another company (not just department, but actual company because they have all these 3rd party companies handling things), then they transfer me and I get the same story. Maybe they are just trying to wear me out so I give up? Either way, this is horrible customer service. If you are going to have your policies underwritten by multiple companies at least have a central way to figure that out. I am not employed by any of these companies, and certainly not paid. In fact I pay an extremely high premium for all my insurance so I shouldn't have to learn the corporate structures and processes just to get a question answered. I am now on the 5th call and cannot get anyone who knows anything. In fact each person has admitted to me that they have no idea how to figure it out. Really?belairdirect

I absolutely responded with all the information in an email on Oct 25, including my full address, contact number, ID#, policy number and a very detailed description of my concerns. I am still waiting for closure. On my travel claim, I did get a call telling me it was paid to the provider, only to get another bill from the provider. I confirmed they have not received payment. On the dental claim, I have received no contact at all since this review was made. It's been a month and not so much as a phone call about it.Review fromSusan T

I agree with the others, they are the absolute worst to work with. I pay for my coverage out of pocket and they still give me a hard time about everything. I have second coverage through with another company through my employer and they are awesome to deal with. Johnson's website is hard to use and makes uploading photos very difficult. There are many practitioners out there who still issue hand written receipts and Johnson's website makes it difficult to upload these. Johnson insists that the other company be accessed first and then they only cover a percentage of what remains. The other company, on the other hand, will cover 100 percent of what is remaining if Johnson would pay. The situation is absolutely ridiculous. I have spent so many hours on the phone with them, I am exhausted. **** works so hard to get people to buy through Johnson at retirement and it is the worst. Beware retiring teachers in Ontario!!belairdirect

Worst experience ever. Quoted a low price so I switched -Took the majority of my business 2 house policies and a car then requesting multiple information letters about an accident that happened 9.5 years ago for the rest of my business. Terrible customer service never responded to repeated emails for over a month Requested letter of experience - provided then asked for another letter. totally ***************belairdirect

****** company to work with. We got into an accident 6 weeks ago, heard from our rep once, then he went on 'vacation' and nobody has contacted us since!! We've tried contacting them daily with no answer. Once someone said they would contact us back, and they never did. We have NO idea what is happening with our car. Ahhh, so frustrating!!!belairdirect
