My car was stalling frequently, only starting half the time, and had very little power so I brought it into Midas on Robie Street to get it looked at and get an oil change at the same time. They changed the oil and only charged me for the oil change and told me I needed the high-pressure fuel pump replaced. This is a $650 part but they told me it was why my car was stalling, not starting, and did not have a lot of power, and was very common in my make and model of car. On September 18, 2023, I took my car back to Midas to get the high-pressure fuel pump replaced asap as my car was not safe to drive with the stalling happening at red lights and intersections. After it was replaced my car stalled leaving the garage and the next morning still wasn't starting. That morning I called as soon as they opened and explained the issues were still happening. They told me they didn't know what else could be wrong with it and that I should contact the dealership. It was then that I was told that they never put a scanner on my car or ran a diagnostic (even though check engine lights were on) and they just guessed based on the symptoms and make and model of my car that the high-pressure fuel pump was the issue. I then reported this to Midas customer service as I spent $907.25 total on something that did not need to be fixed, that they GUESSED was the problem. They did not look at my car during the oil change to find the problem, rather they guessed the problem based on the information I told them and then proceeded to act on that guess while giving me the impression they had diagnosed the problem. I explained that if they had discovered that it needed to be replaced, but didn't fix the problem that would be okay, but that wasn't the case. After much back and forth with customer service my request for a refund (or partial refund) was denied. So I was out $907.25. I then took my car to the dealership where they properly diagnosed and fixed the problems.
