    Consumers allege that this company is approaching them with letters of supposed "job offers," even though they are not looking for employment. The company sends then cheques for several thousand dollars, with instructions to cash the cheque. The consumer is to then take delivery of products that will be shipped to them, and their "job" is to deliver these products to seniors' residences. The BBB wishes to alert consumers that these cheques will come back as bogus, and consumers will loose the total amount of the cheque plus any bank charges, when it clears. Also, as the consumer is to contact this company, and confirm their banking information with Standard Sunlife Insurance. This may possibly result in identity theft for the consumer, and access to their bank accounts.

    The BBB cautions consumers that there is no such company by the name of "Standard Sunlife Insurance." The Financial Services Commission of Ontario (FSCO) is responsible for licensing all insurance companies in Ontario. The FSCO shows no license for "Standard Sunlife Insurance." This company has combined the names of two reputable businesses that are well known in the insurance industry (Standard Life Insurance and Sun Life Insurance). This fraudulent company is relying on consumers to be confused, and think they recognize the name.

    The BBB also wishes to advise that this company is using a residential address in Ottawa, but the individuals at that address are not connected in any way with this company. These homeowners have received mail sent back to Standard Sunlife Insurance at 1102 Bedbrooke Street, from consumers marked "return to sender." The homeowners have brought this to the attention of the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre, (http://www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/english/home-eng.html) and to the local police.

    Finally, the BBB wants consumers to be aware that communications from a company that contain obvious spelling and grammar errors, may indicate that the company might actually be located outside of North America, in spite of any address they display.
