On March 21, 2024 I ordered a rebuilt Corvette steering box (among many other parts) for the price of $390.99 with a core charge of $118.14. I received the box on May 3, 2024 and due to cancer surgery in late April, I finally inspected the box in July. Upon inspection, I noticed damaged threads on the sector shaft that connects to my vehicle. As well, the sector shaft adjustment s**** lock nut was backed off and the s**** was loose, The sector shaft cover screws (4) were also loose. I removed the 4 screws to remove the cap and lift out the sector shaft and found that no parts were replaced during the "rebuild". The bushings, bearings and seals were 58 year old original parts. Their rebuild was merely dumping most of the old oil out of the box, adding new grease to the box, incompletely assembling the box and painting it. I reassembled the box (a very simple task for a Red Seal Journeyman Automotive Mechanic of 40 years) and contacted the company. I took many photos of the old worn parts, as well as existing dirt and old oil that still remained inside the box and sent to Corvette Depot as per instructions. An RMA was created (*****) and the box was sent back to Corvette Depot. I received an email for **** ****** the Program Manager who wrote "Thank you for your email, since the product was modified from its original state, that voids the possibility of returning the product. However, and because we value your business and relationship with us, we accepted the return but with a restocking fee. The returned product is not in a resellable condition." I only received $287.37 back from returning this part due to a 30% restocking fee and they refuse to return my core charge of $118.14. I can't get an explanation of how I "modified" the part by simply removing a loose cover and shaft, then reinstalling. I have called Moez 4 times, left messages to call me but he hasn't returned a call. Their service department merely repeats the talking points of the box being "modified".

As per our Return Policy posted on the website:

"Corvette Depot is not responsible or liable for labour fees associated with the installation, removal, modification, painting, or repair of any product purchased regardless of the circumstances. Corvette Depot is not responsible for any damage or discoloration incurred in relation to chemical products being used including cleaners, waxes, polishes, paints, etc.
There is no guarantee on moving parts such as engines, transmissions, rear ends, steering gears, water pumps, distributors, wiper motors.  If any product is modified, altered, painted, installed or disassembled in any way without our expressed written permission, the item is non-returnable."

Given our relationship with the customer, we went above and beyond in accepting the return and only charged a restocking fee given the special situation which the customer explained in his email; in a typical situation, this return would have been rejected altogether and no compensation would have been issued because the product was modified by the customer.

Again, according to our policy, made available to all customers even prior to purchase, customers cannot return modified products.

I am rejecting this response because: Corvette Depot seems to be embarrassed that I discovered that the "rebuilt" steering box that I purchased was merely an old box that was painted over to disguise the lack of a true rebuild. What they deemed "modifying" was me simply removing loose bolts to reveal what I had suspected, a non-rebuilt part. I have challenged them to repeat what I have done so they can witness the old bushings, bearings and seals, but they are unwilling to take on the extremely simple task. This leads me to my conclusion of a corruption cover-up.

    Sincerely,

Please see the attached photos that support my claim that the steering box was not rebuilt.

As well as paying for the steering box, I paid $118.14 + tax = $124.04 for a core charge, which I would have gotten back provided I had sent my old steering box back to them. Instead, I sent them back their supposed rebuilt box which means they don't need my old box for a core (one for them to rebuild and resell) anymore. However, they refuse to send me the core charge of $124.04. They don't require a core anymore, so it's basically theft if they don't return the money I paid for the core. If that money is rightfully returned, I will be satisfied.

    Regards

The refund for the core has been processed.

It should be noted that based on the recorded call on December 31, the customer did bring up the refund related to this complaint at the 4:40 ***** however, the refund for the call was not mentioned throughout the duration of the call, therefore it has been unjustly stated that we refused to refund the core.

Again, the refund for the core has been processed.

I am rejecting this response because: It should be noted that Corvette Depot feels that at no point they refused to refund the core charge.

    1. I sent an email to **** ****** (Corvette Depot Program Manager) on September ****** questioning the absence of a core refund. He responded on September 16, 2024 refusing to refund anymore than the steering box minus 30%.

    2. On October ****** I called Corvette Depot and spoke to ********, and asked her why I wasn't receiving my core refund. She said I wouldn't receive my core refund due to a reason that didn't have much sense to it. Please have Corvette Depot check the time of the recorded call where she refused to refund me the core charge.

    3. On October 29, 2024 I called Corvette Depot and spoke with **** and again asked why I hadn't received a refund for the core. He replied with the same convoluted reason why I was refused my refund. Please have Corvette Depot check the time of the recorded call where he refused to refund me the core charge.

There appears to be a pattern here where very little that Corvette Depot says can be believed. Without The Better Business Bureau, I would have been yet another victim of this uncooperative, corrupt business that is fast becoming the place to avoid due to its unscrupulous manners of conducting business. Until the core refund of $124.05 makes it into my bank account, this complaint is far from over. I would like nothing better than to divorce myself from Corvette Depot, but they seem to enjoy the game of tormenting clients that make a complaint. The core refund to a "temporary" store credit was made in 3 childish stages of  $70.63, $97.34 then finally the full amount.

    Sincerely,

The reason I rejected the response is because I don't feel the money owed will be returned to me. At present, the core refund is in a store credit and it will stay there until it likely disappears. It is supposed to be credited back to my credit card after 24 - 48 hours which is well overdue.

I am coming to this conclusion because of an earlier issue. I had purchased another part (generator pulley) on March 21, 2024 that I had waited 8 months before canceling to purchase elsewhere. That amount ($325.06) remained in a store credit for 3 weeks as I monitored it. It suddenly disappeared from the store credit but didn't appear on my bank statement. I called Corvette Depot and spoke to *** who assured me it was put back on my credit card. I insisted it had not been sent to me, so he said he would call me back. After an hour, he called me back saying Corvette Depot had issued me a cheque 2 weeks earlier for the refund. I spoke to him on December 19, 2024 and I still haven't received the cheque. In total I am owed $1118.22 for the core refund and cancelled orders, and according to their policy it should have been returned, but I feel I will never receive it due to the fact I complained, and the games have started since then.

I can appreciate that this is all very convoluted for you, but the fact is, I don't want to purchase from them anymore, as the pain will just continue, and they won't return what I am owed.

    Please advise.

April 16, 2024 called Corvette Depot to place an order for 2 cushions. ID #********. Product #******* @132.99 each. Product arrived May 10. Upon trying to install the first one, product cracks. Product was defective, cracking, coming apart and unusable as a seat cushion. Corvette Depot contacted, and arrangements made for product return. May 11, products returned with return form provided by Corvette Depot. May 17, received email indicating no refund to be given and status closed. Telephone call made. Spoke with **** who indicated refund should be given for second item that had not been used. I have followed up with an email on May 23, asking for an update and May 27 asking to return both items to me. June 3, sent email indicating that I would follow up with a complaint to Better Business Bureau. No response from Corvette Depot since May 17. Desired settlement refund or replacement with good quality product.

On May 10th, 2024, we delivered two units of the Corvette America 1997-2004 Chevrolet Corvette Seat Foam Sport Bottom (*****) to the customer. The following day, on May 11th, 2024, the customer initiated a return, claiming that the product was faulty. Upon receiving the returned items, it was evident that the product had been altered. The customer acknowledged in the Return Merchandise Authorization (RMA) that they had trimmed the driver side cushion to accommodate the installation of the driver seat switch. According to our return policy, any products that have been installed or altered in any manner are ineligible for return or refund. Nevertheless, we communicated with the customer and agreed to ship the product back to them for a nominal shipping fee, which we fulfilled. Had the product not been altered, the customer would have received a refund in accordance with our policy.

Purchased speakers model ******* for $516.68 with tax and shipping. Speakers arrived and were install. After trying them realized something wasn't quite right. I took a closer look at the speakers and discovered they sent me a cheaper version model ******* which would actually be ****** cheaper if I had ordered them. upon further investigation I discovered the original ones were discontinued, so I decided to keep the speakers they sent as they are custom to the car and hard to get. I contacted the people at Corvette Depot ************ and requested a reimbursement for the difference in price, but said that I would need to ship these back for them to issue any type of credit even though I would require them to ship the same speakers back to me. It took time for me to get them and the shipping charge there and back would have been an additional ***** . This was an absolute error on their part but they refuse to correct it without costing me more money. See attachments
