Scott Richards North Star Foundation Endowment

About the endowment

Better Business Bureau serving Minnesota and North Dakota is honored to be the recipient of endowed funds from North Star Resource Group. In 2017, $50,000 was given to BBB Foundation by the Scott Richards North Star Charitable Foundation, which supports causes important to the North Star Family. It provides, in perpetuity, annual scholarships for high school seniors who exemplify character ethics. Learn more about the Scott Richards North Star Foundation.

In 2008, Scott Richards, son of North Star's founder and executive chairman, Phil Richards, passed away following a valiant battle with myelofibrosis and acute myeloid leukemia. In Scott's honor, the foundation was renamed the Scott Richards North Star Charitable Foundation.

Since 2004, North Star has donated 10% of profits annually to its foundation, which has contributed over $6.3 million to the communities in which they live and serve. Community involvement has always been a priority at North Star and is a long-standing tradition. Phil Richards is a former BBB board member and North Star CEO Ed Deutschlander said partnering with BBB on this endowment was a perfect fit for North Star.

"We feel it honors our history and also helps pave the way to a brighter future," said Deutschlander.
