When throwing a big party, like a wedding, rehearsal dinner, milestone birthday party, or graduation party, one of the first things you need to do is decide where you want to hold it.
There are many options to consider depending on how many people you expect and what kind of atmosphere you want.
Some venues will identify just as wedding venues. They may have a specific look and work with the best vendors for a wedding.
Other venues may call themselves banquet halls, party halls, or reception halls. These may be more generic and can be decorated for any kind of event. You might find these as standalone spaces or as part of a hotel or party center.
Another option, which may be less expensive, is finding a restaurant with a private room that can be reserved for a private event.
No matter which type of venue you decide on, there are several things you should consider and ask about:
- Deposit: A banquet venue typically requires a deposit to reserve your date. Ensure you understand the deadlines to make any changes or cancel and what it will cost you.
- Party planner: Does your potential venue have an in-house party planner (sometimes called an event planner or reception coordinator)? If so, this person may help you coordinate with other vendors and ensure everything goes as you want. Some venues may require that you use their planner; others will not. Ask questions about this to clarify what is required and what, if anything, it will cost.
- Catering: Some venues will require that you use their catering services. Others will let you work with an outside caterer. Talk about this upfront, especially if you have ideas about a preferred caterer you want to use. You may have to decide which is more important to you – the venue or the food.
- Parking: Does the facility have self-parking or valet parking? Is it included, or is there an additional charge?

Accreditation and Ratings Overview
Select businesses earn BBB Accreditation by undergoing a thorough evaluation and upholding the BBB Accreditation Standards.
BBB assigns ratings from A+ (highest) to F (lowest). In some cases, BBB will not rate the business (indicated by an NR, or "No Rating") for reasons that include insufficient information about a business or ongoing review/update of the business's file.
