Truck purchased from Countryside Motors, Conway, AR $5000 repairs pre 500 miles *Abridged* Repairs/expenses: $4,951.68 on 2010 Ford F150 pre 500 miles. ShpA: Auto shop. ShpB: Auto transmission (TM) shop. CSM: Countryside Motors. CSM flushed the TM and I took possession of the F150. On hilly roads (less than 50 miles) I had to press the accelerator before releasing the brake when stopping on an upgrade. Otherwise, a clunk and a jerk occurred. The TM shifted harshly on a 300+ mile trip, worse the next day. Ran T fluid leak check: placed cardboard under F150. My 7/28/23 CSM email stated info re 2' X 3' fluid spot. A retired Ford Service Manager said reusing a TM pan gasket probably caused the leak. No one worked on our F150 since I picked it up. ShpA: The dipstick metal cap had been broken off earlier- unserviceable. Retained by friction, pulled it off-no tools. ShpA provided the P074 code that I researched. “Driving a vehicle (with a P074X code) may cause damage to other internal TM parts. A P0741 DTC in itself is very serious and should be addressed as soon as possible and handled with adequate repairs.” (Kelly Blue Book). “A P0741 code is typically triggered by a faulty torque converter, but it can also be caused by a worn TCC valve, or internal TM failure, among other issues.” (Richard McCuistian ASE Certified Master Automobile Technician). ShpB: Shudder Fix (CSM post flush) and a P0741 indicates a damaged torque converter clutch. It may need to be replaced. ShpB agreed with the sources quoted above. I had them do the repairs. ShpA: New battery plus repair alternator system. Sent CSM two letters to discuss equitable cost-sharing for the TM repair. A call Aug. 28 was all I received. The caller said (I paraphrase) the vehicle left there in good condition. A P0741 requires adequate repairs and possible TC. Caller appeared unaware of this. My Aug. 3 CSM email stated the P0741 code. The monetary offer wasn’t an *equitable* cost-sharing resolution.
