2 major issues: 1. I looked through the loan documents and conversations with the solar company. Not once, did they mention this had an interest only period to it. They specifically said that payments were to be made to a portion of the principle the it would recast to the full amount. This should have been disclosed. 2. I've had this system for more than 1 year and I just found out the system hasn't been all since it was installed and ready to go. I'm not sure how this could happen.

Kota started and never completed the solar installation of the solar system, It's been going on for over a year. The project started in June of 2023 and is still not fixed or completed. Kota skipped city inspections which has resulted in the solar panels being placed on my driveway and leaning up against my house for nearly 9 months.

Similar to 10/18/2023 complaint on the BBB site, representatives from both Kota and a large reputable, local roofing firm inspected our roof and concluded the roof was in good working condition, 8-10 years minimum remaining on the paper, 20 years for the concrete tiles. Despite being approved for solar installation, we even had the roofing paper replaced on part of the roof just to be super safe. Almost immediately after this installation was completed in the rain and dark conditions and the solar panels were installed, we experienced numerous leaks in our roof, with multiple locations of visible water damage inside the house and inside our garage. Kota's engineers have been out multiple times and have yet to remedy the situation. The last inspection yielded a recommendation that the panels should be removed so the hardware underneath can be properly sealed. Kota has since ignored all forms of communication---E-Mail, Phone and text messages. This was a $92,000 installation and is ruining the function and aesthetics of the interior of our home. I request they complete the work under an accelerated timeline before any additional damage occurs and uphold their 25 year Roof Penetration Written Warranty.

KOTA solar installed 14 solar panels on my house roof in October 2020. Starting April 2022 two out of 14 panels started malfunctioning (confirmed by ENPHASE). I only noticed this 3 weeks ago. In my attempt to reach KOTA to determine whether this is a warranty case and how to proceed in general, over the past three weeks, I have sent multiple emails to KOTA at [email protected], spent hours calling their number (###-###-####), and waited for responses. I have left countless voicemails and requests for callbacks. However, none of these communications have been returned. At this point, I realize I have exhausted all available options to contact KOTA regarding this matter and this is the reason I'm filing this complaint. The details of my solar system: - Site id (copied from ENPHASE): 1941313

I was a first time home buyer in December 2022. As a divorced single mother of two, I was looking for ways to bring down expenses living in California. One way to do that was to possibly look into solar. My solar representative came as a referral from a friend, and since it was a friend that I trusted, I felt more comfortable going with KOTA. The rep was nice, however, I feel that he did not educate and lead me properly. He discussed the benefits, and that I should consider signing a contract before a certain date in April due to a new net-energy metering plan. He also informed me that by law, the HOA could not deny me solar. He told me that I could just go ahead and sign my contract and then deal with the HOA later, because oftentimes the HOA moves at a glacial pace in approving solar for residents. In my ignorance, guidance of the rep, and the time frame, I decided to sign the contract. Shortly after the solar panels were installed, I was contacted by my HOA that I was in violation. At the beginning of December 2023, I put my home up for sale. We were set to close 12/22/23, however, my HOA wanted more documents even after I filled out an application. I have been going back and forth between the solar company and my HOA trying to get better understanding and documents needed to expedite this process. One thing required was a COI which specific coverage and additional insured. Though what they were asking for was out of the norm form KOTA, they finally sent over an updated COI, however, after observation, the manager saw that the COI had been tampered with, so she contacted the insurance company and they confirmed that the information that was on the COI was not what they had on file. I am not sure if this would be considered fraud, but it was definitely not a good look with my HOA. At this point, I just need the correct and valid documents so that I can proceed with the sale of my home before I lose my buyer.

I signed a contract with Kota in February 2023 for the installation of solar panels at my duplex in Berkeley, CA. When the solar installation was scheduled for August 16th, a full six months after signing, Kota began but was unable to complete the work. My loan was initiated in August, interest began accumulating, and Kota received payment despite their unfinished work and inoperable system. This is an unethical business practice that left me paying for a system I could not use. I sent emails over the course of a month (on 8/28, 9/22, 9/25, 9/26, and 9/28), imploring the Kota team to finish the installation before the city inspection date they scheduled. This did not happen. On September 28, 2023, the scheduled city inspection could not be conducted because the job was still unfinished. When I reached out in frustration, I was again assured by Kota staff that the repairs would take place immediately. Another five weeks went by with no communication. On November 7, 2023, after informing Kota I would file a BBB complaint, I received contact information for C***** ******, Senior Project Manager. I was promised that the job would be completed within a week. It took a month. On December 5, 2023, four months after installation began the solar system finally received permission to operate. Yet again, this was done incorrectly. Only half of the panels generated power and our monitoring accounts were not set up correctly. On December 18, a partial fix was completed. I have received no communication whatsoever from C***** ****** or anyone else at Kota since January 11, 2024. It has been 12 months since I signed a contract for my solar system, more than 5 months since I paid in full. I have spent many hours asking Kota to install the solar system I paid for, and then repair the work they failed to complete properly. I am left with a system I do not have faith in and no way to monitor its functioning or performance.

11/9/23 - Roofers left over 6,000 lbs of left over tiles from the solar project on our flat garage roof causing it to cave and crack. We tried to contact their insurance company with no response. We've tried to talk to the CEO **** ** ***** about getting an insurance adjuster out to assess the damages but they have not repsonded nor finished the repairs. The city red tagged our garage due to this incident, **** sent roofers out to sister the cracked beams and put a band-aid on the garage so they can be cleared. The garage now has water damage from the rains and there is no resolution from ****/Kota nor their insurance company.
