I had to rent a car yesterday morning because my car was at the dealer for repairs. The dealer called this place and they sent a shuttle over to bring me from the dealer to the rental car location. The shuttle driver used a slur to address me during the drive over. When she parked in front of the rental car office she held a piece of paper up over her shoulder for me to take inside to the desk. I grabbed it quickly to show my displeasure but didn't say a word. While I was at the desk (I was trying to move on without incident) she followed me inside and again verbally abused me, this time in front of a larger audience. I told her I wasn't interested in getting into it and for her to stop. She continued to abuse me, so I told the person at the desk that I was leaving and walked out. As I was leaving she continued her verbal abuse and I told her to f off at this point. She followed me out the door and was teasing me as I walked off. I walked about half a mile back to the dealer, told the manager there what happened, and he went back over to the rental office to tell them their behavior was not ok. He relayed to me that the shuttle driver was also the office manager at the car rental place! The word she used to address me and the tone in which it was delivered was akin to using a racial slur, teasing someone for their physical appearance or disability. It was totally unprovoked, repeated many times, and she was actively seeking confrontation. I ignored the first two instances, asked her to stop on the third, and then swore (f word only) at her to back her off. All she had to do was drive me from point A to B and keep her mouth shut.
