Government Action: BBB reports on known government actions involving business’ marketplace conduct:
US DOJ v Helios Raphael Dayspring

On July 28, 2021 Federal prosecutors filed a criminal information charging Helios Raphael Dayspring a.k.a. "Bobby Dayspring" with one count of bribery and one count of subscribing to a false 2018 income tax return that deliberately failed to report millions of dollars to the IRS.

According to the court documents, Dayspring owned, operated or had controlling interest in multiple farms that grew cannabis in San Luis Obispo County. Dayspring also owned multiple farms that sold marijuana to the public. To further his interest in his farms, Dayspring began paying bribes to San Luis Obispo County Supervisors. He paid the previous District supervisor $32,000 in cash and money order bribes. These payments were in exchange for the supervisor to vote on legislative matters related to Daysprings farms to operate before it had obtained final permitting approvals.

Daysprings admitted in his plea agreement that he and his business associate attempted to bribe the then Grover Beach mayor with $100,000 in exchange for two dispensary licenses. The mayor did not respond to the offer and the money was not paid. Dayspring also admitted to underreporting his personal income on his federal tax returns 2014 - 2018 which resulted in the IRS losing $3.4 million.

On August 25, 2021 Dayspring agreed to plea guilty to both aforementioned felony charges, pay $3.4 million in restitution to the IRS, and cooperate with an ongoing government investigation. Dayspring was released on $50,000.00 bail.

    This case is pending.
