There have been several instances of contact from Hireright with statements that previous employers were unable to be contacted.This has occurred multiple times in the past 5 years. I have saved the emails of every request for documentation, as well as the multiple times that I have provided the exact information repeatedly. Even after being given the information required to verify employment by each companys methods, they refuse to follow through. They in turn make it the applicants responsibility to verify employment. Recently, I was contacted by Hireright to verify employment for two companies. Once again, they did not follow the procedures set forth by the companies and required my documentation in the form of W2s. In less than 24 hours, I sent them a letter of recommendation, a W2, a letter of employment verification, a link to ******* which is what the company uses to verify employment and screen shots of the Certree verification, as well as another W2 not requested, as of yet. There is absolutely no way any reasonable person would not be able to use this information to verify employment.I called to follow up and was told that they need 48 business hours to complete this process after having the documentation submitted. So basically another 6 days. Additionally, they sent me an email that said that they completed a credit check and it was sent to my employer. Hirerights portal states to click the link to receive a copy of this credit report but it doesnt work. When I called them today, they said that I couldnt get a copy until they were done with the complete process. I am deeply disturbed by the background check by your company. I have been *** fingerprinted, in the past for employment, with far less hurdles. They have cost me a significant amount of stress and delayed my start dates. I am deeply concerned, that Hirerights poor performance will cost me an opportunity. I have attached a letter that gives further details as to my experience.Business Response

The Background Check is taking longer than usual, and I have a supposedly criminal record that Hire Right is conducting. The criminal case is pending at the ****************, ** database, which is similar to the most recent complaints on this forum. With all the documentation and passport ID I provided to ********************, I still don't know how they concluded that the person in ****************, **, is me when I currently reside in **********. Note: I'm ********************************** *********** with the same name as mine. My start date was Monday, Feb.17th; a week and a half has passed. I contacted Hire Right, and they were extremely apologetic and said they would complete it by the end of the day on Tuesday, Feb. 25th. However, I'm still baffled that their search is on a ****************, ** database, which has been down for quite some time. I started my background check on Jan 15 2025. After calling customer service multiple times they kept giving me different estimated dates of when the check would be done and it has been changed 3 times. They ble it on the courts and say they wont respond but Ive heard stories of people calling the courts and discovered hireright never sent a request for any information. **************** lied to me and said my check was done once, then they told me it would be done in ***** hours, then I called back again a 2 days later and they said it will now take 7 additional days for my background check to be completed. This is a sorry excuse of a company and no employer should use them. I cannot start my job because of hire right and if they actually finish my background check by the date they said this time, it will have been over a month since I did it. On the 23rd of January I submitted my request in accordance with my future employer, *********** and *********, to Hireright to commence the *** process. Since then I was asked by the employer to fly from ********** to **** and wait for the process to be completed. During the extensive wait period Hireright has maintained that the Riverside County Public Access Database has been down, but upon confirmation with several executives from said office the system portal was changed and therefore intermittently working. Hence Hireright requests that *********** and ********* request that my final two out of eleven reports be requested directly from the County. Upon confirmation from both the employer and Hireright that said document request has been received Hireright still continues to provide an estimated date of completion for Tuesday, February 11th. The inefficiencies of the company keeps me scratching my head, as I have also recently completed a *** for two other companies with zero delays. This process has cost me time, money and much dismay. Im only requesting that Hireright complete the job that they were hired to do on the 23rd of January and finish my report.Business Response

Im currently dealing with the incompetence of HireRight and I'm afraid my employment may be at risk.The company does not understand that as a Sole Proprietor with a freelance business that I do not receive W2s or 1099s. I'm solely responsible for taxes and have completed them for the last 6 years by entering my payment history only. If the *** has no problem accepting my income in this form then why should a third party verification company?I have linked the platform's policies, tax returns (showing how it was entered in the 1040), and ALL my payment history directly from the company. I've also included a signed explanation from one platform's CEO and they are still claiming that my paperwork is unacceptable. They also take issue that in my state, Sole Proprietor's are not required to register with the state if they choose to use their SSN or a dba. I've also provided links to the official **** website as ******* next step is to contact them directly to seek a resolution. I am currently in the process of having a background check done. I am supposed to start my new job in 10 days and have put my 2 week notice in with my current job, as I was told my background check was to be completed by 1/20. Since then it has been delayed 2 more weeks (anticipated). They stated theyre waiting on criminal records from a specific county thats delayed. I contacted the court and the court stated that it isnt them thats behind, its Hireright and they dont have a request with my name. Im in a tough spot, especially when I know the report will come back clean. I will be out of a job soon and Hireright told me they cannot expedite this and Im not getting much assistance.Business Response

Received an email from this company telling me that I needed to go to their website to give permission for the company I applied for which was ***** to access my MVR and afterwards I could Go to their website and get a copy for myself. Turns out that that's not true. You can go to their website all you want, but you can't access your information without going through a c*** ton of stuff to get them to eventually, maybe possibly mail it to you. I am currently in the process of having a background check done with this company. So far it has taken 4 business days because they keep requesting more information. I have sent it all in. However, in my last position I was subcontracting. I have found Hireright to be very invasive. They are asking for my gst filings, all of my paystubs my start and finish letters, my business licence info as well as my gst registration number. The job I have been offered is hourly plus commission. So my self employment info is irrelevant. I don't feel it is anyones business and I truly wonder what is the real motive for being so invasive?Business Response

I used HireRight for a background check, and they asked for my Social Security Number and a W-2 form. After uploading the W-2, I realized it wasnt necessary and asked them to delete it because it contains super sensitive info, including my SSN.HireRight told me they cant delete it, which is ridiculous. Why would they keep this kind of information if Im asking for it to be removed? This puts me at risk of identity theft, and they havent given me any good reason why they cant just delete it from their system.I want HireRight to delete my W-2 and any other personal information I uploaded and send me proof that its been done. Its my personal info, and I shouldnt have to beg them to take care of it.Business Response

I am filing this complaint regarding the frustrating and inefficient experience I have had with HireRight during the background check process.I clearly indicated on my application that I was self-employed and provided accurate information regarding my dates of employment. However, during a call with a representative, they seemed to misunderstand this and repeatedly asked to speak to someone else who could verify my employment. This demonstrates a lack of attention to the details I explicitly provided.Furthermore, I was told that I did not confirm the correct dates of my employment, despite submitting accurate information. This lack of clarity and poor handling of my case has caused unnecessary delays and stress.I request that HireRight take immediate steps to review my case, resolve these issues, and ensure that applicants receive more professional and thorough service in the future.
