I have had a loan through RSVP for a while and steadily made my payments. I recently refinanced my home and was given a check through my refinance to send to RSVP to pay off my loan in full, plus there is an overpayment so I would like that remaining amount returned to myself. I mailed the check over 2 weeks ago, and have yet to see a change to my account as being paid off. Instead they keep adding interest daily to the amount owed. I have sent multiple emails to their complaints department with no response. I have called and left messages with no response. Now when I call to speak to customer service the automated system hangs up on me. I am questioning whether any person works here, or if they are still in business. I want my check to pay my loan off to be done with this horrible company!Initial Complaint

I made a decision to renew a loan through RSVP in March of 2022. I was in a desperate situation and did not make a good choice. I do, however, take responsibility. I recently reached out to work with a reputable financial counseling team. They are negotiating with my creditors to make sure payments get made and I can fix my financial mistakes. I reached out to RSPV prior to this for two months, explaining I was in a financial hardship and could not afford the $236 payments twice a month. They informed me multiple times they did not offer any programs and were not able to help me. After I missed a payment, they only offered to up my payment to make up for it. After defaulting for 30 days, I called to let them know I was using a third party company and I was hoping they would respond to them. I was informed my account does not qualify for them to work with a third party. Instead they offered to rewrite the loan (this is at 200% interest). I asked what would qualify my loan and I was informed they would need to take legal action against me before they would consider it. The tactics used by their employees were extremely threatening and intimidating. She told me they would contact my work and also asked if I had the money to pay for a lawyer. They also said they never received contact from the other company. When I gave them the info, they said the person with that email had not worked for RSVP for quite some time.Business Response

Upon review, we made contact with our customer on 6/27/22 and immediately offered a hardship payment plan that the customer agreed to start on 7/15/22. The customer then submitted a request to stop all payments on 7/12/22 before the payment plan started. As of 8/23/22 this account is currently eligible for in-house programs to help get back on track. RSVP follows all federal guidelines for collections and our intention is to assist, educate and inform our customers. As of 8/23/22 we have not heard from any 3rd party regarding this account or any attempts at resolution.Customer Answer

I was never offered a "hardship repayment plan". In June I was told there were no programs available to me and because I had a missed a previous payment my payment was increased. I believe it was the first week in August that I called in response to an email I received from RSVP. I called to let them know I had entered into a program with Green **** and was hoping they would be able to work with them to get payments. I was told my account did not qualify for them to work with a third party and they were willing to re-write my loan to bring it current. At 200% interest, this will not help me, it just resets the same problem over. When they said they did not receive any communication from Green ****, I called them right away and they gave me the time (July 29th) and the email address they had sent the request to. I called RSVP back immediately and spoke with a woman who informed me that the email they used was of someone that no longer works there. The woman I spoke with at RSVP was confrontational and argumentative. I did let Green **** know about the communication break down and they said they would try to attempt to find contact information.Business Response

Upon review, the customer was offered a hardship payment plan on 6/27/22 and agreed to it but cancelled the plan before it could start. This account currently qualifies for in house options for assistance that are not being accepted. As of today 8/25/22 we have not received a phone call from any 3rd party regarding this account.Customer Answer

I want to be very clear. I was never offered a hardship repayment, nor did I ever enter into a hardship repayment plan. When I first reached out to RSVP, I explained I was having a difficult time making my payments. I was informed there was nothing they could do for me and they increased my payment amount. This is the agreement in which they are referring to and yes, I did cancel my automatic payment shortly after that. It was at that time I decided to enter into a debt management program. I have been in contact with RSVP several times. Most recently, I reached out via email to ask for contact information for the debt management program. I received a reply and was told "Upon review, your account does not qualify for a settlement due to your lack of payment history." I actually have an extensive payment history with RSVP. This particular loan was renewed in March. I was told a payment of $175 needs to be paid within 24 hours or they will continue to escalate my loan. I was a bit surprised when they asked for me to send them my debit card information to process that payment over email.
I have declined their current offers because this in no way helps to resolve the original issue. I have several creditors I've needed to work with through this difficult time. RSVP is literally the only one that has been so difficult to work with. Their customer service seems to always involve twisting words, threatening to contact relatives and work and over all just hateful interactions on the phone.

Better Business Bureau:
I have reviewed the response made by the business in reference to complaint ID ********, and find that this resolution would be satisfactory to me. I will wait for the business to perform this action and, if it does, will consider this complaint resolved.

*************************I am accepting the cease and desist you are doing but I will not accept what you guys have done I tried calling back after the 21st because I could not make it work and instead of being helpful you were rude and aggressive with me and then started calling my business and telling my co workers who you were and why you were calling which is against fdcpa laws which I do not think is right. Please do not contact me and lose my info.
