Traveling from ****** to ******, I broke down on I-5 near ********* on 11/19/24. Was told he would look at it the following week and given a verbal estimate of $2200 for a fuel injection pump, parts and labor. 3 Weeks later he still has not repaired it and stated he could have it done within 1 week. I never received a call from ***, I called a week later he states it's done and the bill is $4115.01. flew down to pick it up. On the invoice he charged me $2941.12 for the VP44 injection pump and $93.37 for a fuel filter plus labor and sales tax. The pump online is $1300 to $1600. I think it's fair to mark up parts but this seems like very excessive price gouging. I did get a couple other estimates for the same repair, both within $200 of ***** original estimate. Had he not excessively marked up the price on the part. The bill would have been very close to his original estimate. Now that the repair is done, I was forced to pay him to avoid him putting on a mechanics lien and me losing my truck.
